Hard to tell when they pander to fans and when they not. There are already vocies that say that they pandered to fans and Equestria Daily by bringing back Trixie in the next episode.

 

I would say that her character returning is not pandering, but if they make a joke about EQD or Sethisto then that would count as obvious fanservice.

Once they didn't want to do anything with Luna, because she was too dark and scary. Later they noticed her popularity and we know the rest. Now they even made Nightmare Moon more accessable.

 

Fan pandering to 100%, if you ask me. The same goes for Trixie.

Blatant fan service, like say, "Slice of life" is fun in small doses. A little reference, or callback, or something every now and then is fun, but if they go overboard it would start to get annoying.

Considering the last season practically went down the fan wish list and checked items off one by one, I was particularly fond of it, so I'm hoping for more in season 6, and it's off to a good start so far IMHO. A Celestia episode is one I would still like to see so here's hoping it happens sometime.
