This episode was a 3 out of 5 for me. I can't say I was surprised that Trixie was jealous of wanting to be better then Twilight. It was still nice to watch. Plus I play this new game with myself to see if I can spot Coco Crusoe in the new season and I spotted him in the audience of Trixie's show.

Before anything else, I just have to say...I really like how everypony here made some mistakes. Twilight wasn't putting enough trust in Starlight and wasn't giving Trixie a second chance, Trixie was too focused on "Winning" and showing up Twilight, and Starlight wasn't thinking enough, skipping out on Twilight and Celestia's dinner like that. None of them were perfect, they all messed up, and they all had to grow from this experience. I really like that.

Also, Trixie and Starlight were great. They clearly showed they were both still a bit devious, with Trixie still being arrogant and quite a show-off, but their friendship was also super adorable and I'd love to see more of it. Plus, that ending. Cranky Doodle Donkey, asking the important questions in life.

The episode was good up until the last act. Then it kind of lost it's way with how smarmy in how the three main characters interacted. Also Twilight pretty much screwed Spike over, not setting him a place at the table and then plagiarizing his advice to her on the train at the end of the season premiere. Thanks Twi... :unamused:

Also, why is Fluttershy suddenly afraid of a Manticore?

Awesome episode, Trixie has sure been gone for a long time huh... was just as good as the last episode with her though and seeing Starlight make friends with her is cool. A lot of nice cameos this episode too, which I didn't know about but they were welcome lol :P

So yeah cool episode. :D

Pros:

  • Trixie and Starlight conflict
  • The facial expressions in this episode
  • The ending gag
  • The gags in general
  • Magician stuffs

Cons:

  • Only one continuity error. Fluttershy, I thought you weren't scared of manticors. Though you could argue that she was concerned for Trixie's safety

All in all, good episode.

I liked the episode. I'm glad that Trixie and Twilight still retained the animosity with each other. I felt that Starlight and Trixie were meant to be friends. I also enjoyed the scene where Starlight made Big Mac more talkative.

So far, I have to say that this is my favorite episode of the season.

And now I can say that I actually like reformed Starlight Glimmer's character. (I still dislike the reformation, but this episode has helped me enjoy the character's personality that came afterwords.)

I just really liked how awkward she is and seeing her struggle to actually make new friends.

The character dynamic with Trixie was actually pretty cool.

Also there were some pretty good jokes in this episode.

This episode was fun Twilight was like a parent guiding but not putting enough trust in her child so to speak and Starlight was like a child so to speak ignoring her parents wishes because she saw it as rejection and Trixie like that child with a bad reputation trying to change. And why did FlutterShy faint from the manticore, didn't she tame one in season one?

Oh come on. While, yes it's true Big Mac isn't much of a talker, he can and has engaged in conversations with ponies. Though, i can't blame him for not wanting to talk to Starlight, considering what she did to his sister when they first met.

IMO, I give it about a 3/5 (possibly even a 4/5 upon a rewatch).

Both Twilight and Trixie definitely had some iffy moments, but ultimately none too bad, especially given the great ending.

Also, Trixie wasn't too glaring in contrast to during IDW #21-22.

Well put.

Personally, I'd give this episode a 9/10. It was great...but then it had the Great and Powerful Trixie so that makes sense.  :squee:

I liked this episode to be honest, eventhough i can see people not liking it.

Twilight mistrust of trixie, while a bit over the top, was something i can understand. Eventhough they made up with each other, Twilight still has some rest doubts and that's realistic all things considered. Still, maybe over the top, but i can watch over that.

Wasn't really that fond of the background ponys including. It just screamed like pointless fan shoutouts and didn't really added anything to the episode, eventhough Crankys end comment was hilarious.

Trixie was still the same character, eventhough she is good towards Starlight. Some people just have these personality quirks and sometimes you just have to live with these. It might make them seem odd, but they are not evil or anything because of it.

Also, Twilight made a mistake with Starlight. You happy guys? I can understand Starlights frustrations and it fit very good with the episode.

All in all, good episode. Not great, but good.

I think she was more afraid of the stunt than she was about the manticore. I mean, Trixie was supposed to get eaten alive

Well, the episode didn't really contradict the comics, so I'm glad that didn't happen. Man, if only Twilight had gone to Manehattan that time...anyways, good episode. I liked it, but I didn't love it. There are some great moments, and Trixie's return is always welcome, but there is a little too much forced conflict. Mrs. Cake was just plain mean, while Twilight was being downright cruel, and then Trixie just had to say the wrong thing at the wrong time so that she could almost lose Starlight as a friend, only to have them make up in the end, because that trope isn't totally played out. Overall though, I give it a pass. It's not my favourite episode, but I enjoyed it for what it's worth. Who else caught this on Equestria TV?:)

That was a good episode. Love to see Starlight and how she behaves now that shes reformed. The constant references back to her and Trixie's evil pasts was quite funny. We got to see Vinyl scratch again!!!!!! The ending was funny too.
