Rather than a new generation would you prefer a sequel series?

More like Digimon Adventure 02 or Dragon Ball Z.

The idea being that while there is a new cast of main characters, our original cast is still significant enough in that some could also be main characters or at least there is an expectation that they could play a huge role in plots.

This would actually be awesome to see. That is if they still has fuel to go on. They could concentrate on the new cast but keep our beloved characters relevant too. It could also take place in a new place in Equestria.

I actually like this idea a lot more than a whole new gen.

I totally agree with this idea! It would be awesome to see Twilight succeed Celestia as the new ruler of Equestria. Provided Sunset Shimmer has returned to Equestria by that time, her and Twi can be co-rulers and the sequel could focus on events during their reign.

I could see this happening. Hasbro did this with Transformers recently by making the next series after Prime be a sequel to it. And G4 has been undebatably THE most successful iteration of MLP, so I see no reason why they wouldn't want to continue it in some capacity. Plus, having long, continuing continuities with various sequels and spin offs is kinda the "in" thing right now.

I really think that would work they could concentrate on an older Flurry Heart, her friends and older CMC or a completely new cast altogether but if they decide to pull a Gohan I promise there will be Hell to pay.

Though I think it would be more interesting if it was a new story rather than a forced set of friendship lessons/elements all over again. It doesn't make sense to suddenly lose our main characters' significance to bring on a set of new characters that would do the same thing.

So a Power Rangers type deal where the Elements are passed onto a new batch of ponies?

And we get see the CMC as adults and Flurry Heart in her teens?

The Mane Six appear every now and again with mentor roles to the new Elements?

I would actually like this very much. Maybe have it set in a new town for a change of pace?

I dont want to be a Downer, but after the quiet long running Series of FIM, i think a Sequel to that, would make the Series a little to long and a little bit overdone.

I would kinda wish, to see something completely new, maybe even change the Mlp Formula a bit.

But i wouldnt mind, if they actually make a Sequel Series, i would watch it anyway.

Nononono, the mane 6 should remain the elements, this pushes the new generation vibe and thus tells us that these new characters are as important or replacements for our old cast.

Either the new team holds different roles regarding their connections to Equestria and spreading friendship or we explore a new storyline with new main characters.

Why not have the sequel series have a different premise?

Actually, that works against the new cast being as important or more important than the Mane Six. It's kinda hard to imagine a more important role than the Elements of Harmony without over blowing it into something improbable and overexaggerrated.

The Elements would either have to transfer or have no bearing on the story.. then again even in the show now the Elements are absolutely useless and no longer have a role (the artifacts thenselves, not what they stand for).

If the Series has a different Premise, than why even make a continuation of Fim?

Sounds more like a Spinoff to me, like a Series focusing on some Backgroundcharacters.

I wouldnt really call it a Sequel than.

I just want complete change, we already have G4 s 6 Seasons and 3 Equestria Girls Movies, with even more coming up.

I just dont want G4 to become The Simpsons and go one endlessly with countless Sequels.

Err that's what I wanted, I said a new story. The new cast should have their own roles that is NOT the mane6.

I can share my idea for one, it is lighthearted, but also pretty over the top silly. I think a story that still justifies friendship lessons would be great

I still think there are way more stories to tell with these characters, but this could be seen as a spinoff if you want to call it that. Edited by Slashy

I know that's what you said, but you did also say you want these new characters to be as important, if not more important than the Mane Six.

That would be pretty difficult considering they're the Avengers of Equestria. It'd be like Marvel introducing a new team that's on the same footing as the Avengers or even more influential/important. :P

They have sub-groups, like the X-Men for example. But the X-Men definitely aren't on the same level as the Avengers. Introducing a group more important than the Mane Six would be like establishing a new Avengers. I just don't think it'd be very believable or help in giving credibility to the Elements.

Fair enough, maybe they won't be as important but they would share a different role.

Honestly I'd probably give either a chance, but I feel like after a point a new gen needs to be a thing.  I personally would like to see another art style and a different take on the similar themes that MLP keeps.  And while I'd love to see more stuff involving the main cast even if in more minor roles, I feel like, given the nature of the show, they wouldn't be able to take it into very many new directions.

That said, I really wouldn't be surprised if they did a sequel series, and I think it wouldn't be bad either.  So, whatever.

As long as they stay far away from the mane six and move onto other characters, perhaps maybe 5-10 years into the future after the final events in the series or movie then it would be fine. It would be fine for the older characters to make an appearance once in a while, but staying away from them would be best.

Perhaps a series with just the background ponies!

...other than that I think a new series would be best as long as it has the fim feel to it and art style....but maybe updated a bit more.

Considering the success of FiM and just how far the show is pushing its limits now, I'm all for that happening after the movie. A focus on new characters will open up many new ideas while keeping it in the same world will retain a sense of familiarity. I can only hope that the new show has a more open format and can balance the adventure and slice-of-life elements well.

A new generation can happen eventually, but it can wait.

Sequel series. They risk losing carry over fans with a reboot. And I'd hate to see the animation style go. I want a time skip with a different cast. Maybe have one or two of the mane 6 (now middle aged to elderly) as supporting characters.

No, I prefer new gens. Sure there will always be ones that aren't very good, but there will also be great ones. It breathes new life into the franchise, introduces new characters and makes callbacks to older ones.

A series should never run on too long.

I was coming up with an idea for new cast to focus on, one we could stick have slice of life, friendship lessons, and adventures with, but like Digimon Adventure 02 or Dragon Ball Z was a supplementary cast rather than a replacement cast.

Rather than introducing a new set of Elements of Harmony, introduce characters who could greatly benefit from learning about friendship. Such as a troubled delinquent, a girl who had been dormant for thousands of years and suffering from memory loss, a girl training to be a perfect princess, a robot studying ponykind, and a photographer looking to start a magazine.

These things could provide a familiar, yet different, feel and allows our original cast to aid in their journey rather than trying to introduce characters to keep an original cast fresh.

The question is : around friendship or not ? I'm afraid I don't have the answer. It would take another Faust to bring to life a new and interesting concept.

And having a new cast, everything around friendship and all, with a lot of ponies from the current G4... It wouldn't feel so great honestly. Especially since Twilight became the princess of friendship.

There is definitely everything to create another good show, but, again, it might take someone really inspired to get it right. :twi:
