Is it Worth Watching Past Season Four?

Angus McFife

Recommended Posts

I've been a little slow in keeping up with the series, and I know I've made it through to the middle of season four. Is it worth it to keep going? Is there anything I should know about the quality? I'm mostly just curious if it's a good use of my time is all. Any thoughts?

Finish Season 4, and if you want to watch anything past that, at least watch Season 5's Amending Fences and Crusaders of the Lost Mark. Season 5 and Season 6 so far doesn't pack nearly the same punch as Season 2 and 4. You're not missing much past the episodes I listed.

There's plenty of good episodes in Season 4 with episodes like Rarity Takes Manehattan, Pinkie Pride and Testing, Testing 123 are some of my favorites in the show. There are definitely be some misses but I'd still say watch it for your self, you'll probably like some them more than others do

I recommend watching Season 5. If you are unsure about Season 6 so far, there is no harm in not watching it, but it never hurts. Sadly, it doesn't seem to hold much promise as of yet.

I disagree. Personally, I thought Season 5 (with the exception of the finale and a handful of episodes like Princess Spike and Party Pooped) was superior to Season 4. As for Season 6, we're less than ten episodes into the new season. I think we should wait to draw conclusions until the halfway point at least.

Angus: I think you should go and check out an episode list for seasons 5 and 6 and pick out a few episodes that appeal to you. If you like those, then go ahead and watch the rest.

Disagree as much as you want to. To me, the majority of Season 5 and Season 6 so far are pretty flat. Where Season 2 and 4 had really great character moments, with 5 and 6 it's swapped for boring and awkward dialogue. The episodes don't burst with character the same way they used to and are instead either having its characters stalling in scenes to make episodes longer or being not much outside of Nolan-Rayed awkward-exposition-dumpers. The most recent episode doesn't have these problems, but a good chunk of Season 5 and 4/6 episodes of Season 6, for the most part, do.

Be happy to PM me if you wish you continue.

Season 5 practically made the show for me. I would say keep going, but don't hold my opinion in a higher regard. People seem pretty split when it comes to the newer seasons.

@@Angus McFife,

I say yes, granted I'm the endlessly pleased, nothing can bother me, so rapturously in love with this show that "Bats" was the closest I ever came to outright revulsion at it, so I maybe not the best one to ask. But Season Five had one of the highest emotional floodgates of the show and it was of similarly good quality throughout. Loving season six thus far.

I think season 5, and what we've seen of season 6 so far, have given us quality episodes with far fewer stinkers than other seasons. If you're wanting more pony, you can't go wrong.

It's fine to have an opinion, but don't tell someone an entire season (sans two episodes) isn't worth watching because you happen not to like it. At the very least, tell them it's an opinion instead of trying to pass it off as objective fact.

In my own personal opinion, I think Season 5 has introduced the best batch of new characters (even if some of them will probably only have one episode) since season 1. A lot of them are very relatable and enjoyable, and I'd go as far as to say that some of these new characters are even better than the likes of many veteran characters as well.

Of course, this is my subjective opinion. It's really only up to you to decide whether or not it's worth your time.

These kinds of posts make wonder why I bother posting on this forum.

Let me turn your logic against you and tell you: you can't tell someone something is worth watching because you happen to like it (which is exactly what everyone is doing on this post).

And I'm sure most people know that my reply is an opinion. Just because someone said something "is" in this context doesn't always mean they see it as fact. I shouldn't have to always say "In my opinion....." because everyone should already know in this situation their opinion is as valid as the next guy's. It's common sense.

Thanks for the feedback all! I really appreciate it.

You're very welcome. Have a happy catching up (should you choose to continue)!

I'd say season 5 is definitely worth a shot. With it being so divisive, (to me) that would add even more of an incentive to watch it  I personally fall into the 'season 5 was a good one' camp, with some stand out episodes in there.

With season 6, I don't think it is as good as 4 or 5 (so far) - but I'm not saying that it is bad at all, just not as good (but, it's still early days - I found The Gift of Maud Pie to be a very entertaining episode).

Alright. I think I get what you're saying. Sorry if I came off as a jackass.

Here's how it works for me (Bare with me here). I love the official show only because of the world and characters. Nothing else in this fandom keeps me in this community (Apart from my awesome friends which is the only big reason why I'm a Brony).

Now, if there's one thing I love in MLP:FiM, it's the characters; They're appearance, personality, etc, basically everything that makes the character that character. As an example, I like Rainbow Dash to be Rainbow Dash. I like Twilight Sparkle to be Twilight Sparkle, I do not like them when they fall out of character and don't act like how I always used to remember them by since the very first season of MLP:FiM.

Now with that said. I'm not fond of the new seasons (Season 5 & 6). Why? Because the characters, the theme/style, and the story is almost nothing like how it used to be. If you watch Season 1 up to season 4, you can tell it's part of the same batch, and the vibe has a certain ring to it. This ring is what got me loving MLP:FiM in the first place, as well as the extremely simple yet awesome designs.

But, if you watch season 5 & 6, you will notice that the original theme has changed. Does it still feel like MLP:FiM, you ask? Not quite. It does feel very different now. I'm aware that they're targeting us Bronies when it comes to what's in the show. In some of the new episodes it's pretty damn obvious. But still, the vibe you'll get from Season 5 & 6 will not be the same as what you got from Season 1 to season 4.

I will not lie here. Some of the new episodes from seasons 5 and 6 do feel like they belong in a fan-fiction.

Overall, if you want to remember MLP:FiM in it's original glory and form, then do not watch season 5 and season 6, because it does not feel the same at all. Some episodes are cool, I'll give them that, but there's not a great deal more I can say about the 2 new seasons.

If you're just wanting to keep up to date and enjoy watching our favorite Ponies jump out of character, then go ahead, watch season 5 and season 6.

I'm only watching them to keep up to date, so if any of my friends starts talking about season 5 and/or season 6 episodes, I can jump into the conversation to express how much I don't like them :)

To be honest, I was having a hard time getting into Season 5. I had just started to lose interest by the end of Season 4 as it was. Season 5 had a few episodes that I didn't find too bad, but most if it wasn't too good for me. Season 6 has been pretty good so far, in my opinion!

I would say it's worth giving it a try! ^^

It's fine, dude. No hard feelings.

And thanks for understanding (something some people on this forum don't understand the concept of).

Personally I thought season 4 was the best overall. Season 5 had a handful of great episodes (like Cutie Map and Amending Fences), but was mostly mediocre or downright bad. I can't speak for season 6, because I haven't seen any episodes yet. Hopefully I'll have time to catch up soon.

I'm surprised S5 is such a divisive season. I'd been under the impression that most of the fandom liked it. Then again, I've mostly hung out on Derpibooru until now, so maybe that was just the general consensus on Derpi?

There are a lot of sites where people can't seem to admit that MLP isn't always golden. That's what I like about this place, you get actual discussion instead of the blind love/hate that I've found on a lot of other MLP sites.

So am I. If you ask me FiM got better as it went along. I've seen shows lose steam and take a dive in quality and FiM isn't one of them.

That's what everyone says on Derpi, too.

If anything, Derpi seems a lot more negative than MLP does. Looking back, a lot of people on Derpi expressed their dissatisfaction with Season 5. I guess it's less Derpi and more the circles I hang out with that like S5, then?

Season 4 is best season so keep going on that.

Season 5 is awesome too, has a couple lows but some of the best highs of the series imo (premiere, Amending Fences, Slice of Life, Crusaders of the Lost Mark, The Mane Attraction, the map episodes) so at least give it a shot.

Too early to say for season 6 but it's not too late to catch up and keep up with it. :)
