An episode about the fear of old age? Too mature for kids?

I thought of an episode idea that will never happen. I mainly got thinking over that one Ed Edd n Eddy episode where Eddy dreams him and his friends have all become old and Eddy deals with the fears and reality of inevitably aging. You think this could be a good idea? I find it a little funny since although Danny Antonucci came up with the idea, Jim Miller worked on Ed Edd n Eddy, it would be deja vu.

I can only imagine this episode working with Rainbow or Rarity, only because those are the only two who I can imagine would detest old age. Rarity fearful of losing her vibrant and youthful appearance and Rainbow Dash losing her speed.

Depends on what you define as 'kids' in this regard, because I became immensely afraid of this concept when I was 10. So with that in mind, I think this kind of episode could be really interesting to watch. This is the same team of writers that were able to handle a direct metaphor to losing a loved one or pet, so I could see them making this work too.

The examples you gave are perfect for it actually. This could perhaps lead onto the fillies as well, like the CMC's. Perhaps they could have the same fear? Perhaps because Rainbow has that fear which she then explains to Scootaloo and it goes from there.

I think this is a great idea. It's somthing that everyone will have to face eventally or improve on. If MLP can have an episode as mature as the one with the acception of death, I don't see why they'd be a problem with this one. I particularly like the idea of Rainbow looseing her speed over time, as all athletes experiance. The only problem I can see with this is, there would need to be a possitive ending, since it would have to appeal to a younger audiance. I really like this concept though.

While it's a nice idea, i don't see it really happening. It's one of those things like death, that you really need to be careful how you pull them off and i don't think the guys at DHX (who i respect BTW) don't really have it to do it.

Plenty of kids shows have done this... Ed, Edd n Eddy, Teen Titans and Dexter's Lab come to mind.

All different shows with a different demographic and a different age group in mind. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

So you mean to say Dexter's and Ed, Edd n Eddy can do that but it's too mature for MLP? Come on man, that's just absurd. Last time I checked all the shows mentioned are G rated. And MLP is intended for families not just little girls.

But all these shows have a different feel. Also, remember Tanks for the memories? It was supposed to be an episode about death, but the guys at DHX got cold feet and changed the script, because they thought it was too mature. That's why i can't see it happen.

That's different. That's about death, not old age specifically. Dexter's Lab or Ed, Edd n Eddy never really dealt with death either. They however did tackle the theme of growing up and getting old. I see no reason MLP couldn't do that too.

Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie and maybe Twilight would get over old age. Pinkie will always be Pinkie even if she is 90 years old! Fluttershy can still tend to her animals in her old age and maybe Discord could physically help her if she needed.

But the episode was still about death. It's massively infered - in fact, it's almost impossible to miss. They even had episodes that shared similarities to the fall of communism and civil conflicts. If they presented it in a way that there were a double meaning, I could see it working.

The show doesn't have the courage to touch on a subject of old age. It would have to be either a non canon episode.. Dream episode or the series finale.

Maybe it's an okay idea. It could be an influence for kids to inspire elderly folks who are down about their age, or even people who are in their twenties and think they're old. It would be good to teach them about this, but then again, there's...probably lots of places for it to go wrong. Maybe they should avoid this because it gets too real. c:
