Should MLP have darker scenes?

My little pony has had some dark moments but should the show go further with it's dark scenes. It makes sense that the show doesn't go dark most of the time due to it being a kids show but that won't really hold it back. Shows like Adventure time, Gravity falls, and Powerpuff girls so MLP could do the same. Tell what you think. Should MLP go to darker places or is it fine with what it's doing?

Good grief, no.

LOOK at your freaking TV - roughly half of the stuff available is GRIMDARK.

For crying out loud, let the ponies stay in the light - you want dark?  Feel free to go read 'Cupcakes' or 'The Rainbow Factory'...

... but I sincerely hope they don't go any darker with it than they have in the past.

About on par with the comics is about what I want; I don't want Teen titans level stuff here XD :P

Like, I found the scene in Princess twilight sparkle where twilight thought Celestia had been killed by luna, or Twilight's kingdom where her tree got blown up were dark enough.

Can't you just leave MLP in peace and let us have something to take a break from living our sad, dark lives? Go watch Hannibal or somethin if you want.

For MLP FIM...... i say no. Its just not the type of show that would do well with doing darker scenes.... however i wish more cartoons in general had the gal to have darker scenes, and more complex plot lines.

Something about bringing cute lovable characters and giving them a tougher world where they can grow closer bonds together though tough times I seem to like. Might be why I love Zootopia so much.

OH!  My apologies - I wasn't trying for mean; I was just kinda spouting.

I'm sorry if I offended.  *bows*

Perhaps it came across as a bit aggressive because I've been having grumbling fits over the sheer AMOUNT of dark-themed stories there are out there nowadays.  I just enjoy having fun, cheery ponies to watch, that's all.

As far as i understand the Situation, doesnt Bronys watch the Show to escape all the serious and dark stuff for a while?

And just want to watch something more happy once in a while?

I mean, if you want to watch something dark, than...i dont know...watch something dark perhaps? This could be an Idea. Just saying. I mean, i dont know.

Dont forget, its a Kids Show.

I dont care what some Bronys say but it is a Kids Show.

Dark Stuff normally doesnt belong here.

If you want to watch something for Adults, watch something for Adults, but let the dark stuff out of Mlp.

What means "Darker?" In what kinda combination? How should it be made, without being too much?

I for one don't need that and i think DHX won't go for that. Tanks for the memories was a clear indicator for me, because they wanted to kill Tank first, but he is just in hibernation.

Might be why I love Zootopia so much.

Then keep watching Zootopia, if you want something a bit more serious

I think the show could get away with being just a little darker at times. The LION KING came out when I was 5- and I don't think I was mentally "scarred" from that.

The season 5 opener is a good example. I wasn't expecting it to go as far as it did with the cult/brainwashing and Starlight's deception/manipulation. I initially thought the lucky charms crew was just going to blow on in and remind cooksville how embracing uniqueness makes the world a better place. Then it would end with them all singing kumbaya around the campfire- or something like that- whatever. ^_^

When Starlight met Trixie in S6's "No Second Prances" I was hoping they would end up teaming up and going back to their old ways and become an even bigger threat- feeding off each other- FRIENDSHIP GONE BAD. :umad:

Now I don't know about you, but I think that would have made for an interesting season premise.

But all in all I think the show is still going OK. I'm sure there's more the writers would like to do. The main problem is that the primary audience they must write for is kids, and they only have 22 minutes to work with- hence some episodes feeling rushed, or appearing to be resolved too simply. It is what it is.

If the show got too dark, it would just get WEIRD...It's just not the right show for that.

Ultimately, It's how and when they portray the scene that determines it's effectiveness. We can't have a cheerly/happy toned episode and all of a sudden turns dark. The beginning will have to be set at a tone were the dark scene later can play out correctly.

Still, MLP shouldn't be set onto more darker themes because it may disrupt continuity within each episode.

This show doesn't need an over-abundance of dark stuff. What's the point? It wouldn't add anything substantial to the show at all. As I said in another thread, it is about balance and right now, this show is working with a really good balance that shouldn't be tampered with.

I enjoy discussing dark hypothetical scenarios between the characters (even if there are certain insecure little pricks on the internet who don't). I also wouldn't mind seeing some dark material in a fanmade video game. But the show itself? No. It has all the dark it needs. Just enough to create conflict where it's necessary, but not so much that it puts off the target audience.

Define "dark", because this word is very vague.

Having tougher and more serious things happen such as Depression, Death, and an all around feeling that things may not end happily.
