Is The Mirror A Time Machine?

In Rainbow rocks we are told that Starswirl used the mirror to send the dazzlings to the human world but when Starswirl sent them there Twilight wasn't born yet for who knows how long but when we see the dazzlings it appears that they hadn't aged a day and Applejack even asked why the dazzlings are only appearing now. So what do you think about this, was it just plot convenience or some sort of time travel?

I'm not sure if it acts as a time machine--There is a proper lapse in time between each of Twilight Sparkles visits.

The sirens are drawn because Sunset Shimmer has unlocked a leak of Pony Magic that wasn't supposed  to exist in that world.

I'm under the impression that the Sirens were pretty old even when they were first banished, they could be effectively immortal for all we know.  I rather think the reason they still look young in RR is just because they don't age like humans do.

The mirror seems to bring everyone to the same age; probably something about 17 I guess. Twilight, human Mane5 and Sunset Shimmer are seemingly the same age, while we do know that Sunset was at least young adult when Twilight was a filly. ZVgJU.png

As much as I hate cop-out arguments, I think you can only explain this by saying 'because, plot convenience'.  It would be pretty hard to have a film in a high school setting if the antagonist is college aged.

Unless... maybe Sunset was a bit of a child protege and was actually the same age as Twilight (or maybe just a little older) the whole time, but she left through the mirror when she was still junior-year aged.  After all, we do that Sunset was Celestia's student "Not long before Twilight" (Celestia's own words).

I have little to nothing to say; just what this frame from a comic shows. I THINK that they look like the age difference is bigger than a year or two. But I really don't know. P.S. I won't talk about these Moon Dancer, Twinkleshine, Lyra and Minuette being in Sunset's age without my lawyer.

Maybe Starswirl sent them through time AND space, I mean, he banished them to the mirror with a time spell towards the future. Twi on the other hand could've gone through space only

It's a mirror that enables you to traverse dimensions, (if necessary) transforms you to fit whatever dimension you're in, and can even be siphoned off of by dark angels to give them the power to go all Janemba on reality's collective @$$.

It's pretty much a temporal hotspot, IMO.

I am pretty sure that the sirens were already pretty old before they were banished to the human world.

Seeing as they are powerful mythical creatures, I am just going to assume that they had immortality.

Or it could be that unless your a confirmed adult celestia/luna etc everyone in eqg has the exact same body type.

I can see it now once they hit 40 they go into a terrible metamorphosis to achieve their next form as they are no longer young.

Gotta agree here.

That or Hasbro made a plot hole...

I don't believe Hasbro would make a plot hole.

Well, the Fiendship is Magic comic about The Sirens would stump even Einstein. I always assumed they were immortal beings who didn't age, and just existed in the human world throughout the ages, biding their time until the opportunity presented itself for their power to increase so they can return to Equestria. I pictured the Dazzlings dressed like Ancient Greek ladies when they first arrived, and a sort of timeline of how they dressed, did their hair, etc. What that comic would lead us to believe is that The Sirens were somehow banished to the present day, Western human world, even though Starswirl banished them in the Equestrian equivalent of Ancient Greece. The time machine theory sounds about right. I don't think it's possible to write an algorithm that adequately and accurately explains it though. I tried to wrap my head around it, but it was a losing battle, so I gave up.

Perhaps they were stuck in a timewarp-limbo for a few thousand years? While Starswirl could've sent them through the portal in, say, 1000BC in human years, they were frozen in time until the 21st century when the portal opened on the other end.

But it could also be that the mirror functions as a time machine, under the proper wizard's hands(/hooves). :wat: Maybe Aku from Samurai Jack built it. :P

OMLOMLOMLOMLOML! That makes wayyyyy more sense than ponies just being independent at a younger age than humans. That would explain why the characters in the human world are teenagers, yet in the pony world, seem to be young adults.

Time is not a constant, its relative, even in the confines of our planet. For example, time moves ever so slightly slower on a Jet when relatively compared to a person on the ground. This is scientifically proven as fact.

If the time flow of this reality can vary even on our own planet, how much more so would time be different when we talk about other dimensions?

I agree, the portal isn't really a time machine, but what I do know is that some of the Mane Six's counterparts are in different ages:

Twilight Sparkle: 18 (pony), 16 (Sci-Twi)

Pinkie Pie: 18 (pony and EqG)

Rainbow Dash: 18/19 (pony), 17 (EqG)

Rarity: 19 (pony), 17 (EqG)

Applejack: 18 (pony), 17 (EqG)

Fluttershy: 18/19 (pony), 18 (EqG)

Now, so far, we've only seen Twilight and Pinkie go through the portal, but nopony else in Equestria's Mane Six. I doubt that anypony else in the group will ever use the portal, unless by surprise, it does happen in Legend of Everfree.
