I think the first game I ever played "nonstop" was "WCW vs. nWo: World Tour" for the Nintendo 64.

So, my ex-friend used to pick up playing this stupid Tetris arcade game, which to me seemed stupid and pointless. It didn't seem fun to game over after 2 minutes just to start over and over again. He kept doing it, and I was forced to watch.

Then later that year, he showed me a video of an insane Japanese playthrough of the next game in that same series, but was not available to us here in the western world. That made me come up with an idea, to secretly train to remember how to place pieces at the right spots by playing that video in slowmotion, as I could see how the Japanese player had moments to think, he still somehow always had a solution to every piece, and I am competitive in my nature.

So I posted my video of me playing, on an arcade forum, almost as a joke, showing that the game was indeed impossible, and no one should even try. It must have been fake, the Japanese one. A day later I got invited to an IRC channel with 4 dedicated members, all Grand Masters of that Tetris game, and they put me through some actual training, real training that made me see Tetris blocks in my sleep. And 2 years later, I was also a Grand Master. I am today in the top 30 in the western world ranking, but I used to be in 10. And my ex-friend is still at the same level, dying in about 2 minutes.

It is one of those stories that is fun to tell about today. But it was a time era that is now obsolete, with people playing speed running as a daily thing, and skill is beating the regular patterns, not random gameplay at high speeds

The first shiny Pokémon I ever encountered via full odds was a Roselia in Pokémon Ruby. I didn’t know what a shiny Pokémon was so I thought my game showed a glitched sprite. I captured it so I could show it to my friend but I found out later on that it was actually a rare find.

First disappointment:

I think that would be WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006 for me.

I had never restarted a wrestling game from scratch on purpose before I played this particular game.

First platinum trophy:

Batman: The Telltale Series.

I don't try to "platinum" games but I did with this one because it was episode-based so it happened by default.
