spoiler Why does Applejack need a day off?

She has taken several days off from the farm, why is this suddenly a big deal?

Well, in the comics it was Rarity that needed a 'day off' ... but how they handled it was to have one chaotic event become the catalyst for everyone agreeing that Rarity needed a vacation. This show will probably open with a similar event focused on AJ as she reaches a possible breaking point and ... boom ... vacation bound pony. This wouldn't be a plot contrivance because this happens IRL often enough to be a relatable scenario that feels organic. I can see how the general life inexperience in this fandom may not feel particularly invested in this setup. It is hard to have cut and run for a few days mid term or in an entry level position.

for me it is extraordinarily relatable. Heck, I have even had a VP at one point force me to use two weeks in my PTO bank when I worked for Ford because I was starting to appear a little 'tense' during meetings. He realized I hadn't taken more that a day or two off at a time here and there and basically told me I was a dumbass and to take my vacation now or else.

I suspect the same thing may happen here (minus the 'or else' equivalent). This is actually one of the reasons AJ is my second favorite character since I can easily project myself on her at times.

Its a slice of life that shows a different aspect of Applejack. Since AJ's so often seen and associated with work, its refreshing to see her do the opposite relaxing. :icwudt:

People are missing the point. OP is pointing out that AJ (all the mane 6, imo ) are seen having more "days off", doing things other than their jobs. We see AJ SOL'ing with friends and adventuring more than we see her on the farm

(Same argued for other ponies with jobs, imo)

Well, even if we don't see her work, she probably works alot off screen. Do we really need confirmation in every episode, that she really works hard on the farm? Farm work is a 24/7 job, you know.

The Mane 6 work mostly off screen, because to be honest, showing a whole episode where they are working is a bit boring.

Farm work is very seasonal. There are months where all that's needed is basic maintenance. Big Mac and Granny Smith could handle (hoofle?) that, with Applebloom's help. We see AJ a lot in those slow times. AJ would feel the need of a day off in the heavy work times such as harvesting (apple bucking), planting, and cider season.

well shes gone through a busy day of apple-bucking so she can get spa treatment as a vacation ^_^

So she and Rarity can go to the spa and finally realize that they are literally soulmates of course!

hopefully we'll see some RariJack moments. hoho~

It's kinda confusing that Twilight and Spike are doing her farm chores for her when Big Mac and Apple Bloom could've done them easily.

Apple Bloom and Big Mac have their own chores to tend to. Either that, or they're away from the farm for some reason.

It's probably a circumstantial case.  Like, kind of similar to "Applebuck Season" when she worked herself ragged, my guess is that in this case it'll just have been a particularly long time since she gave herself a break (at least I'm sure we'll get something like that at the beginning of the episode, some sort of comment from one of the Mane 6 about it like Rarity or Twilight).  No big deal, I find that perfectly believable for AJ.
