So IGN is reporting that Blizzard has confirmed they will respond to any and all kind of botting, hacking or cheating in Overwatch with a permanent ban. At this time there is no information on whether they will ever be willing to lift the ban as well. This will apply to all versions of the game. Blizzard will be administering these bans upon first offense, forcing anyone who cheats to have to buy the game a second time to get back in, and PSN/Xbox Live users will need to make a whole new account to play, should they decide to cheat.

This is a huge precedent set on a zero tolerance for cheating policy. What are your thoughts on this? Is blizzard being too strict?

Personally, I applaud this. I applaud it 100% considering this a multiplayer only game. Cheaters ruin the experience for other players who paid for the game. The message need to be sent out that just because you paid $60 for the game doesn't give you the right to ruin other players' experience. While it may seem "harsh" to many, the solution is simply: don't cheat.

If only they were as strict on their other games.. On Starcraft 2, you can be reported for months by hundred of users, and yet enjoy your gaming experience, chill on the forums, post your hacking replays, pay 50$ to get the game back when they decide to take down your account..

Cheating is incredibly annoying and very disrespectful so those who are caught will get zero sympathy from me.

Bravo Blizzard is what I say. If you buy a multiplayer only game and your intention is to cheat in that game, then that to me is stupidity to the maximum level, so I say to hell with them. Ban them outright, they clearly don't care anyways.

I see Blizzard is following the steps of Valve and their VAC bans. To be honest, the bans aren't strict at all. I mean, if you decide to download some software and be a script kiddie, then you deserve what you get.

Honestly part of me feels the ban isn't strict enough. Since anyone who cheats doesn't care about achievements or trophies, so forcing them to make a new PSN and pay for it isn't much. I'm all for IP banning and even MAC address banning. Force them to buy a whole new Playstation if they want back in.

Finally, some company does something like this. I don't play the game, (2 expensive 4 me) but this is what companies need to do with their games. Punish cheaters swiftly, and harshly. Good on you Blizzard.

I can go with this! One of the main reasons why I ended up losing interest in Mario Kart Wii was because of hacking cheaters. There really was no point in playing if others refused to play fair.

Thank you Blizzard; now be sure to follow up on those words!

I believe they do this in Final Fantasy 14. It makes it intense. I don't know the stats for it, but I'm guessing the number of people who have had this happen is very few.

Blizzard has been so lenient when it comes to their warning system and banning. I'm glad that they beefed it up a bit. I just hope that they have a strong system in place so people who aren't cheating won't get banned. Or players want to report them because they are just a good player. That is where it can get a bit foggy.

If I could even get Overwatch if I had the money...

But I have to say thank heavens for someone taking initiative on saying "no" to the cheaters. By contrast, Combat Arms and "Nexon Corp."... Ugh... Hack, cheat, buy NX points, and worst thing that can happen is your stats are rolled back a bit. Not a ban, just a stat rollback.

If you want to pay money for the hacking software and the game, then lose it, go ahead.

Mixed feelings about this.

On one hand, I agree that willful cheaters deserve to be punished, and monetary penalties work as well as any.

On the other hand, how do you deal with the inevitable false positives?
