animation Anime that encompasses a kid's perspective?

Many anime involve kids in unrealistic and idealized scenarios. Especially such original premises like "Generic, loser boy/girl is chosen to be a super hero/magical girl" or "unpopular High School student is suddenly surrounded by tons of beautiful girls, ecchi hijinks ensue", or even "super kawaii, moe girls sit around and do absolutely nothing". Now I'm not saying anime with these set-ups are automatically bad, but we see these kinds of idealized power-fantasy/wish fulfillment stories a bit too often in anime.

Which brings me to the point at hand. I'm looking for anime that's encompasses what's a little more real about being a kid. It can have a few fantasy and surreal elements sure, but it needs to actually encompass everyday kid problems, and realistic scenarios, all from the perspective of an average, relatable kid/young teen protagonist. The best comparison I can make is older Nickelodeon shows like The Adventures of Pete and Pete or Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide.

I think the genre you're looking for is Slice of Life - everyday scenarios with generally ordinary characters, and little to no overarching plot in a light atmosphere. There are many good ones out there, but I'm not sure I could name any from the perspective of a child.

This is quite a tall order, actually. Many animes have realistic problems, but normally they are twined with humor or the supernatural. Finding something that is realistic and from the perspective of said child may be difficult. I haven't seen either of the shows you've named, so I'm not sure I could make an apt judgement, but...

If you're looking for something which is extremely day to day and has interesting characters (one of which is an adorable little girl) then I'd suggest Barakamon. The story follows a struggling calligraphy artist who, after a defeat at a competition, moves to a small island in a bid to find his own unique style. The anime details the people he meets there, the impact they have on his life, and his developments in calligraphy. I'm not sure if I'd call the characters relatable, as such, but it certainly seems more realistic than most other animes.

@TheMisterManGuy, If you don't mind it being about a teenager than My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU might be a good one. It's essentially about a narcissistic high school student with semi-nihilistic tendencies being forced to join a club in school where he has to deal with people, which he absolutely hates doing. Its mostly a drama with comedic moments but Id say it represents a certain group of high school students really well, those being the type of people who got bullied and prefer to be by themselves.

It has two seasons and I think its fairly realistic in how it deals with the high school setting.

I know there are slice of life anime. But most anime in the genres seem to be the same "kawaii, moe, cute-girls-doing cute-things" type stuff. I definitely like cuteness here and there, but it seems like the moe girls do nothing trope is almost dominating the genre.

Durarara has a lot of trippy supernatural stuff, but also a lot of typical teen stuff as well though it does lean a bit more to the former later on.

Toradora! is my absolute favourite slice of life. It's a bit on the dramatic side, but it has a ridiculous amount of charm. It's funny, dramatic, sweet, and full of really lovely moments. I've always wanted to find an animé that can do for me what Toradora! did but I honestly think it's impossible. It's such a lovely story. ♥

Edit: It's probably also worthwhile to mention that it's pretty realistic for animé. Kids being dumb kids and learning a lot about themselves and their friends along the way. It's so good. ♥♥♥

And it probably shouldn't be any harem/ecchi kind because I thought up of one but it was ecchi. It would be nice to have a tame anime for once.

Also inb4 Corey in the House.
