sports Favorite kind of racing!

Racing is a hugely popular sport all over the world. As a result, there are tons of kinds too! We have GT Racing, V8 supercars, bike racing, Nascar, Indycar, Formula 1, even Go-Kart racing as well as many others. With such a wide variety, it makes me wonder what people tend to prefer, or perhaps certain people love a combination?

Let's answer that! What are YOUR favorite types of racing?

For me, it has to be GT racing and in second place, V8 Supercars. GT Racing is just soooo technical and I love seeing how the drivers handle the huge variety of courses all over the world. I also prefer GT racing in the Forza Motorsport series. :)

I've been a NASCAR fan for about 12 years. My second favorite motorsport is sports car, followed by IndyCar. I'd love to see some local short track racing (late models, Legends, etc.), but there's no track anywhere near me.

I've been watching Formula One less since the tire debacle at Indianapolis in 2005. It exposed just how ugly FIA politics were then and continue to be today, and especially with boring racing that the same team wins almost every week. Haas' entry has made me pay more attention, though. I'm glad to see an American-led operation put up such a surprising amount of success for an all-new team.

Formula E would be pretty cool if I could remember when the races were. And they might be coming to my city next year.  :pinkie: They'll get bonus points when they eliminate the car changes, though.

Always loved watching Formula 1 honestly. Any Formula Racing is usually quite entertaining, simply because I enjoy how the cars operate and how the races usually pan out :D

There's been a debate whether drifting counts as racing still I do see it that way. So I'd say drifting, touge drifting and although there are many types of drifting I suppose Formula Drifting is the most competitive one. Drifting is pretty much great.

Spec Miata racing.

Super competitive field with an already excellent chassis. It takes mad skills to fully use roughly 100 hp and your opponents will try to overcome the battle by exploiting your weaknesses. It's ultimaltely how you can keep forward momentum and by attacking at the presice moment is when you can really win. Horsepower is not needed here.

I'm not the biggest fan of racing, but I'd choose F1, I don't go out of my way to watch it but if its on then I won't mind watching.

I remember that race. Petit Le mans, 2008.

The rematch between Peugeot and Audi I was wanting to see since Le Mans that year. Audi of course still won overall. It was the year that LMP2 cars from Porsche and Acura actually managed to beat the mighty Audi R10 at the same tracks. It was also the last time GT1 cars raced at Petit Le Mans as Corvette Racing was set to enter GT2 the next season. (which later became GTE in Europe, and GTLM later on when IMSA and Grand-Am merged for 2014) The ALMS went downhill after 2008 though, which probably led to the merger.

As a biker, MotoGP is pretty awesome. Top speeds comparable to Formula 1 with a tiny fraction of the grip and power. Here's a pretty cool onboard video of Valentino Rossi going around Mugello and hitting 351 km/h at the end of the main straight.

Racing is nice, but I only really play racing games, I don't watch or do real racing. Mario Kart for the win!

Mario Kart is fun and all, but it ain't enough for someone like me.

I've always loved Formula 1. Technologically and spectacularly it is the pinnacle of motorsport. Yes, it's had its share of controversies, base breakers and even outright cheating the odd time, but this is all just part of the game. When it comes down to it, it's about the best drivers in the world taming the most advanced cars in the world and trying to find that balance and display of skill to prove that they are the best at what they do.

That being said, I also love endurance racing. It's a true test of... well, endurance for both man and machine. It's about having the discipline to stay focused for long periods and remain confident during the night when visibility is low, and for the mechanics to always be at their peak and work to fix problems and failures as soon as they occur. That displays a true test of skill and craft, and I definitely applaud the devotion of everyone involved. It looks like exhausting work!

Formula 1. Started watching it sometimes around 2008, then since 2009 every race(Exception germany 2009, because I was away with no chance watching and somewhere at the end 2014 one race because hospital). When my father forced me to choose a favouritedriver he choose Jenson Button for me, because he was leading(And at the end world champion 2009), so with that and how sympathic and awesome he is, he became my fave driversince 2009. If he does drive next year, he can even break the record of most races driven(Button drives without break since 2000).

Of course seeing Mercedes dominating this and last year can get boring, but it's not like it's the first time in history. Let's go back from 2000, shall we?

In 2000, we had only Ferrari(Mostly Schumacher) or McLsren winning

In 2001 Schumacher won more then half the races

In 2002 Schumacher won even more races

In 2003 for once was more interesting, because 6 drivers alltogether had wo at least 1 race. Schumacher also had only 2 points more then the second at the end

In 2004 Schumacher dominated with 14 of 18 victories

In 2005 it was a more interesting race, also for long a new champion with Alonso.

In 2006 it was mostly just Alonso vs Schumacher with the spanish man winning

In 2007 was a more interesting season(Champion + 2nd and 3rd only 1 point difference)

In 2008 was really interesting(Just remember Massa who was already world champion, but Hamilton getting one more position before reaching the finish line and with that having 1 more point then Massa)

In 2009 Button dominated most of the first half of the season, only after the 7th race, other drivers got chances to win

In 2010 was again more interesting with 4-5 drivers fighting til the end for the championship

In 2011 Vettel dominated the season(Button as second was still 122 points behind)

In 2012 it was more interesting again, tough at the end it was Vettel vs Alonso, with the german winning

In 2013 it was first interesting, but the second half got dominated by Vettel who won every race since belgia(9 races in a row)

In 2014 Mercedes then started it's dominance, especially Hamilton

In 2015 it continued the same, only Vettel in Ferrari could stopped the Mercedes trice

And here we are in 2016 now

The F-Zero kind :P

Real talk though, Formula and Rally. NASCAR can be fun, I had a fun time the one time I went to a NASCAR race, but's all about endurance, and while there's definitely more skill to it than some might believe, the fact that all the racing is done is a big oval will probably make it boring to someone who's unfamiliar with it

1. I have never been at a Nascar stadium before but would really love to be there.

2. I hope this count as well: Street racing, mainly drifting. It's looks so cool but hard to master.

3. Go-kart because you necessarily don't need a license for this LOL.

  • 1 month later...

I've kept myself from replying to this topic simply because for quite a few years now I had gone through a racing burnout. With the exception of the Dakar Rally and the World Rally Championship I just lost interest in racing in general. I mean back in the day I was a total NASCAR nut, and as  time when on I grew a strong appreciation for all motorsports in general. You name it, I loved it. As long as it had an engine in it and it raced in some form, it had my attention. However thanks to over-saturation, fan cynicism, and me wanting to do other things my interest waned.

With that said I've had a bit of a motorsports renaissance this year. As I said I've had the interest in rally raid & WRC, but circuit racing especially has grown in favor with me and it's a love I am glad to have back. That said the following are my five favorite racing series:

5. IndyCar Series - A mix of ovals & road courses with crazy fast times; IndyCar provides some of the best action anywhere.

4. Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship - Powerboat racing is crazy in general, but considering that these guys can turn on the dime and go VERY fast without flipping...madness!

3. World Rally Championship - A variety of surfaces, lovely cars, and talented drivers, the sheer amount of talent it takes to run that fast on anything from gravel, pavement, or even snow is just amazing to watch.

2. Red Bull Air Race World Championship - Precision is the key here. It's just so addicting watching these quick planes go through the pylons with the pilots pushing for the fastest time.

1. Formula 1 World Championship - What can I say? Amazing machines, amazing drivers, world class tracks, so much prestige, etc. F1 didn't use to be so high on my list, but anymore I'm seeing the appeal of the racing. Loving it.

Special Mention: The Dakar Rally - A two week marathon featuring motorbikes, atvs, a wide variety of cars, and trucks that would make your local semi-trucks blush! Add in the long distance time-based racing with views that would make the cover of National Geographic it's the ultimate combination of adventure and sport.

Honorable mentions: V8 Supercars, SuperGT, Super Formula, World Endurance Championship, MotoGP, World Superbike, Reno Air Races, Class 1 World Championship, Cross Country Rally World Cup, Cross Country Rallies World Championship, SCORE Desert Racing World Championship

And now to leave you with some boat and plane racing clips. ;)
