Too much Rarity this season

Does anyone feel like that they have been using Rarity too much this season? As of this episode she has appeared in 9 of them and was mentioned in one.

There can never be too much Rarity!   I mean I don't really mind if I get to see Rarity in the episodes a lot because she's my second favorite.

Being serious, Rarity has a tendency to be underused most of the time. She didn't get an episode in S3 due to length, her only big episode in S4 outside of group episodes was Rarity Takes Manehattan, and while it was a bit absurd that she got three back-to-back episodes in S5, that was pretty much it for her for the rest of the season. I say she's making up for lost ground, even though she's mostly playing a secondary role so far as opposed to the main episode lead.

When you really think about it... Not really.

 

She was in "The gift of Maud Pie". But that wasn't really about her. She just helped Pinkie try and get the perfect gift, it focused more on the Pie sisters. Granted Rarity found her new shop in Manehatten. But that was a side portion of the episode.

 

And in her grand opening of that shop in "The Saddle Row Review" that really wasn't terribly focused on her. It was the rest of the group.

 

And today in "AJ's day off" it really wasn't about Rarity either. She might have been a large portion, but it wasn't focused on her.

Also seriously, Rarity's the character who went 2 years once without getting a single episode, she deserves some hardcore spotlight time.


Yeah it's a bit ridiculous that Fluttershy has been shoved so far into the background but that's not got anything to do with Rarity being used a lot.

Exactly! Just because Rarity makes an appearance in an episode doesn't mean the focus on her.

 

In fact, I've been listing every episode and trying to narrow down to No More than 2 characters who the spotlight is focused on (Only 1 OR 2; Mane 6 and CMC can count as one). For Season 6 so far, the Spotlight for Season 6 list is:

So far, I say no. She definitely has been getting more screentime, but is more Rarity screentime really a bad thing? Methinks not.

 

One character that is definitely NOT getting enough screentime this season is Fluttershy though. We have next week's episode for that perhaps but we will see how that goes.

I'd agree that we've been getting a lot of Rarity relative to other characters. I mean, an episode doesn't have to focus mainly on one character for their season presence to rise. I think the relative lack of Fluttershy has merely accented how prominent Rarity has been. We're only 10 episodes in to this season, though, so it will be easy to flip around.

Rarity still has episode 12 on her plate, even though she's sharing it with Pinkie again, but I think from that point, Rarity's gonna be used a little less during the second half after the hiatus, and focusing more on the other Mane Five, Spike, Starlight, and the CMCs.

The point is, Rarity is APPEARING way too much than necessary. Some of the episodes may not be about her (ex: gauntlet of fire), but she appears in them. Other characters could be easily used for most of the roles she has had this season. I love Rarity, but I disagree that she's underused. She's overused if anything. We need more Fluttershy and Applejack.

 

Plus, does Rarity really deserve a true solo episode at this point? She got 3 episodes last season. We're good.

As Lacey stated above, Rarity appears way too much in season 6, but to me, season 5 is the one that focuses a lot on Rarity, and I see all Raraity episodes as OK, I've never found one that good.

You know, I thought Gauntlet of Fire would've been better if they used Starlight instead of Rarity going along.

I don't mind really. Even though Rarity is not my favourite pony, she was actually my least favourite before! But seeing her in loads of the new episodes has changed my view on her!

And when you look back at last season, there was two episodes somewhat more involving Rarity. There was "Canterlot Boutique", and "Rarity Investigates", but that was also about Rainbow Dash. 

 

We only have two episodes left before the hiatus. They will come back with many more and I do hope that Fluttershy does get a bit more screen time. 

 

Many of the episodes last season mainly involved Twilight. I figure as long as the series continues then we will get a lot more of the other characters as well as developing new ones and more of the background ponies.

Now that I think about it, yes, Rarity is getting a lot of screen time...but not a lot of focus. It's mainly been her helping out others: finding a gift for Maud with Pinkie, going to the Dragon Lands to look out for Spike, and now getting Applejack to relax at the spa. Even in Saddle Row Review which was based on Rarity opening up her new shop, she was overshadowed by the mane 6 as a whole being absolutely brilliant. 

 

I'm actually...really liking Rarity like this. It really plays into her element of generosity, something that people were complaining that she barely represented back in the early days of the show. Now that she's really becoming a lot more involved in her friend's lives and considering their wants and needs, like the element of generosity should, people are now complaining that Rarity's getting to much 'focus', basically implying she should be less generous. It's quite funny really.
