Movie merch- should we expect it?

I remember, back when Pokemon-The power of One came out in theatres, I received an Ancient Mew promo card when I purchased my ticket.

When Yugioh- the Pyramid of light hit theatres, promo yugioh cards were also distributed, and you had a chance of getting 1 of 4 or 5 movie exclusive cards. (Magician's Valkyria still rocks my Minty socks)

Can you guys see Hasbro doing the same, 15 years later, and offerring special freebies for first purchasers of tickets, to the MLP movie in 2017?

What promo goodie would you want to receive?

Could Hasbro doing this boost ticket sales in the first week?

There will be merchandise for the movie. But your question seems to be about PROMOTIONAL free merchandise, like that free card with a ticket.

And no. No free merchandise. There will be a shit ton of stuff sold of it, just not free cards and stuff.

Not sure about it, as due to the stigma, such thing could turn away non fans who could see the movie just to find out what's so good with it

how would a freebie given out in any way effect non fans, if those non fans would most likely not even be going to see the movie?

Because there are loads of people who would see it if it got good reviews and not just because they're in the fandom.

and a freebie with their ticket would cause them to explode twice in pony glitter and die? Hasbro sued for freebie's casualties?

A free item is a free item. I doubt controversy or riots will be started over a free promo

You do have a good point... but I think the toy is overkill. Just give them an amazing movie and they'll be satisfied.

doesn't have to be a toy. I fact, I never mentioned the word "toy". A card, keychain, sticker, any small promo freebie.

That would be cool, but I think it could also upset a lot of people who don't live in the US and therefore can't buy tickets to see the first showing. (People like myself. :P )

wwhy wouldn't theatres in other countries be given promos by Hasbro, to do the same for their first showings?

And even then, if people DO miss out in their own countries- ebay, Amazon...

No. None of those are necessary.

promo cards for the first Pokemon and yugioh movie weren't necessary either, but they were a thing, anyway, because fandom appreciation by the company.

Well, I'm sure that there'll be movie merch. After all the show is made simply to sell toys. However there's no way that we'll get a free item simply because we went and saw it in the theatres.

Free merchandise, no.

But I am expecting an entirely new line of toys and other things in order to promote the movie.

I just hope they are more than your average toys but with the movie new characters or something :dash:. Having marks that glow in the dark would be SWEET  :squee:

I'm expecting they'll probably have a bunch of super deluxe toys for the movie; more or less the same quality as the GOH toy toys with extra focus on making the accessories and bling look nice and show accurate.

there'll still be some ultra cheapo stuff of course, but I figure the toyline for the movie's going to be significantly pricier and more extravagant than your normal toyline toys.

Expect lots of action figures that scream "This is NOT Equestria Girls. This is the super-epic, super-action-packed pony movie you've all been waiting for!"

Nah, that's GOH toys :P

The Movie, while no doubt big on action, will still want to market its toys heavily towards its normal traditional market, the little girls, who like brushables and other toys.

If the GOH toys do well this fall, they'll probably make a GOH toyline for the movie though alongside the "normal" toyline. Hell, that might even be the real purpose of the GOH launching this year, to gauge whether or not they'd want to risk those kinds of toys to go alongside the movie.

It's inevitable that there will be specific merch for the movie. Well, okay, Hasbro has pulled some *weird* stuff on occasion so it's not an absolute guarantee.

However, the closest thing to 'free' merch now-a-days at movie theaters is specially printed popcorn buckets for the real blockbusters. So not very likely in my opinion.

The last time I saw actual promotional merch that goes along with a movie ticket was many, many years ago. It was a promotional comic (very short, about 12 pages or so) that went along with some movie. But you had to know it was available to actually get it. The theatre didn't put any effort into letting anyone know about it. It was a very strange.

That's kind of cool though. Getting a mini comic no matter how short would make the movie super memorable and be a priceless keeper. Kind of like my special ticket I got for Rainbow Rocks. It actually had a black/white photo of the EqG girls on it. Hasbro really should understand that the smallest things can make something super special.  :adorkable:

Yeah, not saying it's a bad idea. It's just not one I think Hasbro is going to have. :) As I've said before, Hasbro has this very strong tendency to silo everything, so that one hand is not just unaware of what the other hand is doing, but seems to be completely unaware that it has another hand.

Because of that corporate culture, the idea of them doing cross-promotion by having actual products at the theatres (things like the stuff you get in fast-food kid's meals, mini-comics, and the like) will never occur to them in my opinion, or it would get kiboshed if it does. "You mean I have to co-ordinate between the theatre management company, and the company that manufactures and distributes the McDonald's Happy Meal promotional toys? I'm not sure I can do that. I haven't been formally introduced. I'll need a letter of introduction, a visiting suit, and a five piece band for that!"

One thing I wonder about: How much of the movie will we have spoiled with the toys when they show them at next years toy fair? Like FG they spoiled a crapton with Midnight sparkle and talking about her, I wonder how much of the 2017 movie the toys will spoil about the villains and the plot?

In select markets, depending on their Exhibitor Relations rep, this may be a thing, yes.

When Return of the Jedi: Special Edition came out ... these were given out in Orlando and other markets.

Nice surprise for those who went to see it opening night. I still have two now that I think about it. So movie and toy manufactures do partner with freebies. Not sure if Hasbro has done this since Kenner.

What is one of the main Reasons, why the Show exists in the first Place?

To promote and sell toys of course.

Hasbro, is a Toy Company, so of course they will be merchandise.
