being an active member here was tough experience for me here looking back that time  i had so much fun and happy time but also so much drama  and i think it would be easier for me if I just could be here without so much drama circling around here i dont know if there is drama on other forum like sites or social networking sites or only this site but i aam emotional person and i quickly get into these drama situations and they usually affect me so strongly i cannot comprehend the situation as a whole and i lose control of my emotions. that causes overreaction.

@ooBrony, I hear ya. Some conflict is unavoidable when you interact with a growing amount of individuals. Even if you are not participating ... you will still see it. To be honest, if you understand the motivation behind the people involved, you can really start to understand exactly why there is 'drama' (I think I am going to stick with conflict, as drama is an overused buzzword). It is the power of empathy my friend. You are right that It does chip at you after a while ... empathy is a double edged sword. Try and create an outlet outside this forum so you can decompress elsewhere ... gaming, reading, YouTube, other friends. Come back with things die down.

All robust community driven websites have conflict. At least all the ones I have belonged to. There was even a few moments of brouhaha in My Pants (vlogbrothers original website ... not my actual pants). If it can happen there, it can happen anywhere.

Lemme just rev up my opinions for a minute and get on my soapbox and say something I've been saying for years:

Throwing around the word "drama" can be damaging to a community's health. People quickly start labeling any form of conflict as "drama" and associate drama with "bad". When in reality "drama" or conflict is actually TOTALLY healthy for a community and natural. It actually is a sign of a healthy community. A healthy community requires diverse opinions and an atmosphere that encourages people to speak their mind and not feel silenced for having a different opinion. This means the site isn't a circle jerk which generally fade and die rather quickly. It attracts new members.

When we start screaming "DRAMA!" ever time a conflict happens, it discourages conflict which is not inherently a good thing. It makes it so people will hold in their differing opinions and slowly turn the site into a circle jerk and make people feel that all opinions that are not overtly what the "masses" prefer are not welcome here. Discussion becomes impossible as every discussion quickly just becomes "I like thing. I also like thing. Thing is good." and it teaches the community to not have thicker skin and just get upset any time someone disagrees with them. We love objectivity and everything becomes ruled by whoever's feelings are the most popular feelings. It makes discussing even episodes virtually impossible because we would eventually reach a point where even suggesting a character is the best character is insulting to someone else who has a different favorite character.

While some conflicts can be annoying and pointless, they are actually necessary to keep a community growing and healthy. When crusades begin to happen on sites to try and "eliminate" "drama", sites usually fade and die very quickly. There are tons of brony sites that are no longer here or have faded into obscurity because they wouldn't embrace differing opinions and instead tried too hard to force everyone to get along. The truth is, we all can't get along all the time. We're all different people behind these keyboards. It's natural we'll disagree and even natural we'll fight and call each other names. It's going to happen, but in a way it's not always a bad thing. It means we are a diverse group, it means we're a healthy community and it means this is a fairly free atmosphere for us all to use. I see conflict as a sign that the community feels comfortable enough to share their opinions even if they know people may not like them.

While it can get to you at times, it's best to just take a step away for a bit and try to remember all of this so we don't start pushing for an anti-drama crusade which really will case more harm to the site than good.

Lots of people of differing backgrounds and opinions will inevitably result in the occasional disagreement which can sometimes breed conflict even in the best circumstances. What is annoying to me is not so much conflict but how many moronic fools are driving the more pointless ones with their obstinate refusal to listen to logic and reason. A certain amount of that is also inevitable though unfortunately, the bottom line is you sometimes need to take a step back and re evaluate the good and bad.

I personally believe having a thick skull is important. People in real life would be worse if that is the case. The internet is a wonderful tool of information so i think what mistakes one make one can correct it. But if its too overwhelming then confronting it is the best way to solve it, or read a book and gain knowledge so that somebody doesn't get under your skin. Its easy to happen.

Other than that i hope all goes well, and just be a pony and have lots of hugs ^o^

Too many people have thick skulls though, that isn't a a positive trait to have.

If you meant think skin, and you very well may have, I think it is better to have a balance. There is a thing as being too sensitive, but there is also something to be said about fostering an environment that rewards content that doesn't go out of it's way to offend the general userbase.

Some of the posts I read are so self indulgent that they basically border on emotional mastubation. Others are set up seemingly to invoke a fight instead of real discussion.

The thing is that you can construct almost any opinion in a manner that would get your view across without action from staff, or even pissing off people who may disagree with you. Tact - the ability to tell someone to jump off a cliff and have them be happy to be on their way.
