Changes in emotes

I don't mind the new emotes we've gotten, but a lot of the old ones have been replaced by.. new ones, and IMO, they don't quite express the same thing, or the code that they represent as well as they should.

 

The new : D looks more like a "YESSSS, YESS" kind of face rather than a "really? that's awesome!" kind of face. It doesn't look like : D very much.

The : p emote is ok, but I persoanlly think the old one should return with an xP assignment.

 

Also is mispelled.

 

Last but not least, the current sad fave emote is too sad (it's crying). Why not add a mildly sad fave emote?

The old Rarity and Twilight emotes are gone. I overwrote them entirely when I replaced them about a year ago. I actually attempted to add them back at one point ... unfortunately the original images were toast. Similar thing happened to some if our forum icons when we tried to revert from winter. That is why some are still covered in snow.

How about the other old emotes, like the old ninja face? I really liked the AJ ninja since it looked more... ninja-like.

While the others were accidents, I purposely replaced the old garbage emote with ninja Rainbow Dash because AJ ninja didn't make a lick of sense ... and ninja Dashie was more canonical.

I don't really agree with that decision. The ninja AJ's expression always felt more like what I'd normally use a ninjaish face for, and the new emote's broad grin seems sorta out of place to me. If the emote's trying to say "I'm a sneaky bastard " the older one does a better job of that imo.

 

But I may be the only one who feels so passionately about an emote from two years ago, and it shouldn't be brought back for my sake alone . Just chiming in with dissent as usual

I mostly use the forums for PMing because I haven't caught up on the show

 

but

 

the Rarity beatific smile emote and the ninja Applejack emote have been SORELY missed in my repertoire

 

I wouldn't mind bringing back the background pony joke as a justification for ninja AJ

Ah, I saved it to my computer and uploaded it to my post manually. That'll be the best we can do until/unless a staff person reinstates it.

To clarify, I'm not advocating canning the newer emotes and replacing them with the originals or anything like that. But since it seems there're people who'd like to use the old ones, and we now have them available, I don't see a downside to giving them the option.

Since this thread seems to have died a little, @Fhaolan, @Fresh Nonsense, thoughts on adding back these emotes?
