Hi! I'm new 'round these parts so I thought I'd just throw some of my most recent art out there!

There are some mistakes here and there, but these were just for practice anyway so I'm over it.

I didn't want to take up too much space so I put all of the drawings into one image (which bothers me, what with the different background tones and whatnot), but you get the idea. ;P

Thanks for taking a look!  :squee:

Nice.  I always appreciate varying styles on the FIM ponies, and it's always interesting to see more zoologically correct renditions.  Great job on the detail.  I like AJ's fetlock tufts--kinda like a Clydesdale.  And I especially like AJ's signature stance, as well as Fluttershy's timid, embarrassed pose.  My only recommendation would be to make the hair on Twilight and Rarity's tails start at the base like the other 4.  I also find it interesting that you made the hooves of those two cloven.  I'm guessing that was to set them apart as unicorns?  Like, perhaps if unicorns were real, they might have different hoof types?  Perhaps that's why you did the tails of those two differently?  I like the hooves, but I still think the tails would look better the normal way.  Overall, great job, though.

Thanks for the feedback! AJ was definitely my favorite to do.

Very nice work! I love the style!

Yeah, technically, the way she has them drawn is a more traditional, classic style of unicorn of days past.

You got it! I'm drawn to the more traditional style of unicorns, though I will admit that I didn't do as well a job on their tails as I would have liked -- I never draw in pen or colored pencil, I'm used to erasing mistakes so this was tough. ;P

The traditional style is definitely prettier. <3 And I know how you feel, but holy hell, I'm jealous of how clean it looks. My doodles always have those faint erased lines.

I think so, too, it's so elegant. Aw, thanks! It's taken me a very long time to learn to sketch lightly before outlining!

I'm still struggling. To make it slightly easier, I use a mechanical pencil with more lead out than I need. Makes it far easier to break. I still break it often. xD

Hey, whatever works! XD I've actually never thought of that! Or even using thinner lead could help, too.

I thought of that, too, but any good craft store is a couple hour trip from me and the stores around me don't have a decent selection of drawing materials. :P

Oh, wow! Well I guess you just make the most with what you've got for now. XD

Eeeeexactly. I would love to get a tablet, honestly, since it looks cleaner, but I don't draw enough to justify getting one. Besides, traditional art always has that charm to it.

Tablets are super fun once you get used to them. I'm finally at a point where I'm really comfortable using one but I always miss the satisfaction I get from drawing something tactile, y'know? <3 But yeah, if you don't think you need it I wouldn't waste the money since even the cheap ones are still a good amount.

I think like, 60 bucks is one of the cheapest ones. How long have you been drawing for?

Also, on your profile, your DA link is broken. Only put your username in the box instead of the whole URL When I clicked on it, it gave me a URL inside a URL. : P

That sounds about right. I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil.  :smug:  But seriously, probably didn't start taking myself seriously until around the middle of high school, so that would be...8 years ago? Wow. It feels like yesterday. XD How about yourself?

Ah! Thank you. I fixed it. :P

I was the kind of person who kept telling myself I couldn't draw until I said 'fuck it', picked up a pencil and then accidentally burned down a school.

Nah, just kidding. But seriously, I kept thinking I couldn't until about three years ago and started doodling orca whales. I LOOOOVE whales and I kind of went on a drawing frenzy with it. Then, I started incorporating dinosaurs and even drew my OC at one point. However, the last thing I drew was almost... Holy shit, I actually had to go look. As of the 21st of this month, it'll have been a year since I drew anything.

I love drawing, but with two kids and work, I rarely had time for it lately. It's also very hard for me to get the motivation to do it, since something like this takes me three hours or more to draw. I know that practice makes it easier, I just can't find the time to practice.

That was good. XD

Ohhh, whales are so COOL. I used to love reading about whales and dolphins and sharks when I was a kid...maybe I should get back into that, hmm. Anyway, dang that's a long time! I totally understand, though. It sounds like you've got your hands full and it's definitely hard to find time for something that takes, well, time. And, hey, those are actually nice! My girlfriend is the same way, where she takes a really long time to draw but whatever little work she gets done actually looks really good. Hopefully you get some free time in the future and you can keep practicing!

Whales were a nice entry into the drawing world. They are nothing if not soft shapes, but there is so much you can do with them! I'm not very good at forward facing poses, but I'm pretty decent with 3/4 pose.

Like, I love to write and writing is far easier to put down and pick up again. With drawing, if I put it down, I lose what I was going for and have to start over.

I doubt I'll ever really get the time to draw again, especially if I get this job I'm waiting on. Still, it's nice to have something look back on.

That's very true. Oh man, I feel ya on that one. Forward facing is the worst, it must be avoided at all costs. XD 3/4 pose is good, though! There's a lot that can be done with that.

Ah, I see, I see. Right, when you stop a drawing you lose the moment and it's nearly impossible to get it back because you feel different when you come back to it. Sounds like you should stick to writing for now, then, and it sounds like you enjoy doing that. Do what you love, right? ^^ That's a nice way to look at it, having something to look back on. At least you know you're capable of it when you're allowed the time, even if you might not get the chance again.

Sorry about that. xD Fell asleep.

But yeah, and knowing that I may have to get up while drawing turns my motivation down to near zero, so it's like, why do I even bother? Ultimately, I proved to myself that I could. I'm happy with it.

Haha, it's okay, I fell asleep shortly after, too. XD

Right. Like I always have to make sure I have a TON of time before I start something. That's great! It's nice to find someone who's okay with what they've done and not all super mopey about it.  :smug:
