Anyways, do you want the movie to focus on explaining pre-existing unexplained lore in the show's universe (like alicorns, the tree of harmony or starswirl the bearded, discord's backstory, or something else) or would you rather the plot focus on completely new never before mentioned elements?

Like how the sirens in RR were never mentioned before in show would be an example of having a movie focus on new lore, while the tree of harmony in Princess twilight sparkle would be an example of exploring pre-existing canon.

I'd prefer a mix of both. My preference being that they make a movie with the cliche that all their past deeds come back in one way or another. All the current existing lore actually having a connection where their destinies collide. Think return of the elements, The tree, Those folks from the Cutie map.I think that'd be pretty sweet.

I would want the movie to keep focused on whatever story it's trying to tell. If they give a nod to backstory that would be fine as long as they don't bog down the story too much or try to fit in too many plot lines. There are things I'd love to have explained from the backstory, but I'd happily sacrifice those things if they just make the movie good on its own terms.

Based off the description it sounds like Independance Day with ponies. I think it will slightly differ in lore and setup.

I think the movie should have both old and new stuff. A Celestia and Luna backstory would be wonderful of course, along with more information on Starswirl the Bearded, but I doubt a full length film would do well without adding in some new elements, creatures, etc. If the movie was limited to what is currently in the show, it would probably just feel like an extended episode.

That sounds awesome, but it would be even better if the movie acts as the G4 finale. Like, everything from the series' mythology would somehow tie into the plot. The only thing that might prevent this is the possibility that Hasbro might want to reach people who may have never seen the show. To some fans who know the series well, it could be a dream come true, but to someone who has never seen an episode, it might not have as big of an impact.

I can go with either approach. Honestly I don't think it matters all that much as long as whatever approach they take is entertaining in it's own right.

 

But yeah, weren't some rumors saying zebra lands? Lore like that in itself would be spectacular.

well if you take all the lore all the comics all the episodes into account it paints an interesting picture 

essentially Equestria does not seem natural it seems a large majority of the planet it barren and the only thing making their continent habitable is essentially the tree of harmony 

to me this points to some kind of ancient extinct race that created the ponies or some unseen entity controlling everything i mean the two sisters just started out as unicorns... they don't even know why they exist they're just ponies that just kind of stumbled upon becoming leaders     

and the Crystal Tower to me really seems like some kind of terraformer placed there specifically to keep the frozen north from spreading across the continent

idk to me there just seems to be a subtle build up to something and if you remember Faust said the entire series was planned out before the first episode

I'm excited whatever they do...but there is a subset of story lines that seems far more open to storytelling excellence.

 

they probably can't develop the characters past what the show does, so doing a "modern day" type story is a challenge, since any development must be erased.

However, if the bulk of the story happens in the past, they can do a ton of "new" stuff to bring us up to speed.  I don't PREFER that we see origin type stuff, but i think it would be easier to make good.

The movie needs to be its own thing. Show’s lore, no, whole FIM lore is of secondary importance in relation to wow effect. No Merlin knockoffs. No ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ shit we get in the show. We don’t want to bring “Warcraft” into the realm of possibility.

 

Now for some of that sweet, sweet useless mystic knowledge: #NotAllAngels. Dunno about you, but alicorns feel like Ishim to me. That’s Malkuth level. Not counting us, you could say they are the last ones in the divine conga line.
