Any possible character deaths?

I know its not likely given the fact MLP is a family friendly show but they have breached that limit before. I have a few ideas about who would most likely be killed off, if anypony, but I wanna hear from you guys.

I can't see them doing any considering the last time Hasbro did it(Transformers The Movie 1986), it backfired horribly. One or both of the royal sisters seem like popular candidates but I can't see how it'd be satisfying, especially since Celestia's constantly screwed all the time. I'm sure I'd just be pissed instead :P

Probably not, considering it being a kids show, but I'd like to see Sunbutt die.

Guys, you remember we are talking about Hasbro, right?

You know, the same guys who murdered entire generation of Transformers to introduce the new ones?

In you know.

In the Transformers movie.

Right now I think the only character death I could accept and understand is probably Celestia, and the only way I would accept it is if it tied into a subplot about her telling Twilight that she would like her to take over as ruler of Equestria one day. Naturally Twilight doesn't feel she'll ever be up to such a daunting task, but is left with no choice when Celestia suddenly dies. Understandably, this scenario is practically identical to one featured in How To Train Your Dragon 2, but I could still see it working here. Maybe at some point Twilight could finally ask Celestia a question I'm kinda surprised she never has before; out of all of her students, why was she so special in her mentor's eyes? Maybe Celestia could reveal that she was looking for a successor for her position and she saw that potential in Twilight more than anypony else. Maybe this was her plan for Twilight from the very beginning, but she just had to learn to grow as a princess in her own way before she could take over from her. This could effectively bring Twilight's story completely full circle and link the entire series together. It's also the only scenario I can think of where a character death wouldn't be pointless. While seeing anypony die would obviously be very sad, this one could still serve a purpose to character and story progression, rather than the movie simply having an emotional scene just for the sake of it.

I'm probably getting ahead of myself though as it's unlikely any such moment would ever happen. I would be tempted to say that it may not have worked out for Hasbro when they tried it with Optimus Prime, but that was 30 years ago and times have changed since then, but even so, MLP is not Transformers. Even today I doubt it would ever go that dark.

The closest we got depicting death was an brief 3 sec funeral scene during that one CMC song and of course with Rainbow's pet Tank alluding to death (maybe if I include Trixie's supposed suicide attempt). I think we'll be close to a possible character death pretty soon or maybe not.

I don't see it happening any time soon within the series.. however I won't rule out that they will try to get rid of a major character at some point. There needs to be a point in which Twilight successfully takes the thrown as heir to Princess Celestia. I imagine that one of the characters, Princess Celestia most likely, will vanish one day without trace and the mystery never solved. Then Twilight will rise.

That was also in a different time when the FCC was more lax.

Doing death in a show about magical ponies aimed towards a mostly younger audience would be super edgy. So, no. I don't think that's even an option. However, they could just make some story about Celestia/Luna moving to a different dimension in some universal cycles and junk. Finally explain where Alicorns come from, etc. etc. Could add symbolism and allude to death without actually being death, and at the same time teach a lesson about moving on, picking yourself up, tie up the series, etc. etc.

The ONLY death I'd see as a possibility would be Celestia and Luna and ONLY if they wanted to finalize the series ending with the movie. You know, a passing of the torch kind of thing, and it would most probably either be handled in a non-traumatic death kind of way (Them gently passing away as their life essences are used up in an act or fade away) or with them reappearing near the end as blue obi-wan style ghosts to congratulate the characters and make their deaths have less of a punch.

Times were different back then, and we're talking about cute magical horses, not big ass robots with pew pew lasers and shit. Besides, I understand that move was received poorly, so I doubt they'll kill any of the Mane6. The villain maybe, but not one of the good guys, it wouldn't fit well for FiM

Yeah well people are a lot more mature about that thing now. So I don't think the backlash would be as bad.

Maybe a main villain.  No main characters though, that would be too rough for a show like MLP.

MLP's gotten rough like that before.

Why the hate against Celestia?

I really hate when people are against a character's death because it's for "kids". News flash: kids have handled Tadashi, Bing Bong, Ellie, Elsa's parents, etc.s' deaths just fine.

Without the Discovery Family hamper there's no restriction for having a death. Heck, they already killed Sombra off and had an entire allegory that was one word away from being "death".

Bay killed off fan-favorites and plenty of kids went to see that.:(

A villain most likely. MLP has killed off several villains before.

The Bay films are also meant to be for an older audience(keyword, meant), besides I highly doubt that kids watching the Bay films were as attached to the characters as those who watched the 1986 Movie, especially when the '86 takes place in the G1 Cartoon universe while the Bay films are it's own universe

Has any FiM villain ever been killed off? If not, then MLP hasn't killed off a villain since King Lavan.

King Sombra

that's why I've mentioned that "the villain maybe". FiM isn't too kin in killing their bad guys either, well, Sombra might be an exception if you ignore the comics

death is an important subject, and such an episode could be important.

I'd prefer the character be important enough that it really hurts.  that doesn't necessarily mean mane6.

a beloved character like granny smith would be universally sad and tough to deal with, and they could do it in a relatable way.  I bet most kids won't have their nation's leader sacrifice themselves to keep them safe, but many have had and will have a grandparent die.

I'm getting misty-eyed just thinking about it.

If we get a death, I'd prefer the slice of life scenario to the epic adventure episode.

little kids have to deal with actual death in their families.

i feel like this attitude looks down on kids as being incapable, rather than looking forward at the value such an episode can have for them.

this show has created characters that we emotionally bond with.  it is uniquely situated to explore real emotions and interactions with death.

If any character were to be killed off it would have to be Celestia.

With how little she appears nowadays she is expendable enough that the show could easily survive without her.

But thanks to her connection with Twilight her death would have an actual emotional response to the audience.
