I didn't think we would get to see more of Big Macintosh in a major role so this is a nice surprise.

I guess Spike and Big Mac have an established friendship now with this episode and why he wasn't present in the Season 5 premiere.

Hopefully the episode will showcase more of that.

I bet this this is going to be a fun episode with a group of characters I never thought would interact together.

Was hoping for the Mane 6 getting turned into fantasy characters, but this episode sounds awesome. I've been hoping for an episode dedicated to the guys for a while

 

Hopefully after this we can get more Fluttershy/AJ episodes though

• Exploration of how Spikes occasional "Are you serious" attitude mixes with Discord's playfulness. 
• So many possibilities about a moral. I can't even pick which approach I would take.

This sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I hope so at least. Discord is the character I have some doubts about actually. To me, he is hit and miss. Definitely excited to see more Spike interactions. After Gauntlet of Fire and seeing him interact with Starlight, I have high hopes for him. Though, him and Big Mac? Interesting combo.

And in the Cutie Map it was hinted that Spike and Big Mac have a friendship off screen. This sort of subtle touch (intentional or otherwise) is what I would like to see more of.

Indeed. It is one of those things where I can't even really picture it myself, but that is one of the reasons why it excites me. :3 This episode has gone way up on my 'looking forward to' list.

Something tells me the episode isn't really going to focus on Spike, Discord and Big Mac as much as people think it is.  This sounds eerily similar to an episode of Dexter's Laboratory, where they argued about who the DM/GM was going to be, and most of the episode showed the in-game characters as the actual characters narrated what was happening.  I think this is going to be more like the episode where Rainbow Dash is reading about Daring Do.

 

But hey.  I'm all for any show that actually plugs table-top RPGs, because we don't get enough of those. 

 

Maybe Hasbro wants to create some kind of table-top MLP RPG.

Did we have any extensive interaction between two male characters yet? It was a huge thing bronies wanted and now they are suddenly making an episode about it.

 

I am conflicted because on one hand I like the improvements, but on the other the show isnt the same if it starts trying to directly cater outside its target audience.

Honestly, at this point, I don't think the 'target audience' is what it once was.  It may have started out with young girls in mind, but since the fandom blew up like it did, the show's expanded the target audience to include the new fans.  So it makes sense to have episodes acknowledging that from time to time.

Ah, now I see what you mean. This is actually one of the more legitimate concerns, though not for the reasons people think. If they gave us a Celestia episode and Sunset Shimmer ep this season ... I would likely suspect the "Swan Song" rule is in play.

Its still highly possible the "Discord zaps everyone into an RPG" thing IS the plot, its just the plot with male characters instead.

 

Kind of expecting this episode is there to try and pander more to the 25%+ of the target audience that's young boys like how the GOH line is; You know, give the young boys watching a bone with an action episode about the guys in the show.

hasbro has said they want to try and make the brand more gender neutral though, due to realizing that alot of its income comes from males now; Makes sense to try and have an occasional episode focusing about guys.

Well I guess we have our 3 Spike episodes then? I mean Jim didn't say anything about them being SOLO Spike episodes.



Also is Twilight going to do ANYTHING this season of note? Fluttershy too seems to be going right back into the background after finally getting an episode that did something meaningful with her for the first time in years.

As long as Spike gets more good episodes, I don't have a problem with it.

Except for Discord, this sounds very similar to an episode I said I would like to see out of this show because of how similar Spike and Big Mac's secondary roles are and how they both seem to imagine themselves doing greater things than their lots in life will allow them to ("Brotherhooves Social", "Princess Spike"). I really hope Big Mac and Spike are written tastefully in this episode. This one's worth circling the calendar for.
