Just so you are aware, I have altered this threead's title to give it better context; as its current title does not provide it with much potential to start a discussion. Also, this thread has been moved to Media Discussion because it is regarding music.

One of my least favorite instruments... Lets see if I can find something. =P

Oh, there's this. The first half of this song (I don't really like the last half. =/) is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in all of pop music, including what I believe is a synth at 1:40.

Back when artists knew how to moderately use synthesizers and be able to balance them and make them actually sound good.

The first of them all, played by Keith Emerson on a huge former Moog Modular demonstration unit: Emerson, Lake & Palmer – "Lucky Man"

Edgar Winter going wild on an ARP 2600: Edgar Winter Group – "Frankenstein"

Manfred Mann on what might be his Oberheim SEM (plus duelling Yamaha electric grands): Manfred Mann's Earth Band – "Don't Kill It Carol"

Synth solos in already completely electronic music — well, why not? Have some Jean Michel Jarre remote-control a Roland D-550 with a keytar custom-made by Lag: Jean Michel Jarre – "Industrial Revolution", live at Destination Docklands 1988
