I know what you are thinking another thread about favorite pony. 

 

But what I am looking for is this your favorite pony based more on fanfiction than on the show itself either because they are more fleshed out or the personality has been slightly altered . The. Explanation of why they are the way they are.

Original characters do not count.

Interesting concept. I would argue that not allowing some OC's is a mistake because there are a few that are used specifically to elevate canon characters (Chrysalis and Button Mash have Flufflepuff and Button's Mom respectively). Nyx could have been instrumental in making a character more appealing to readers. Just saying that literature is weird like that.

 

Heck technicaly I would have to exclude Discord and Changelings and that is a shame because they would have been the two species I think fan fictions helped elevate the most for me. For me it is about explorer that which hasn't been explored and we have a lot for a good amount of the main and secondary equine cast.

 

I suppose Applejack because the stories can explore her parent's death, its impact, and memory more.

Why would discord be excluded any character that has appeared on the show is eligible for this thread. When I said no ocs I didn’t mean they couldn't be part of the story.

Well then my answer is Discord, primarily because of Keeper of Discord. The reason for the confusion is the titular and body emphasis on pony, coupled with exclusionary language (indicating specificity is one of the goals of the author).

I don't know, I usually read the violent fanfics. I guess Twilight can be interesting in fan fiction as well.

To answer the question, probably Twilight Sparkle. I like how she's still portrayed as a huge nerd/dork in most fanfics, while still retaining seriousness for her princess duties.

I dunno, I've read tons of fics, thus I've stumbled upon many interesting takes on characters:

-All the humane6, plus Sonata, Cadance and Flashy are quite a colorful bunch in Persona EG

-I could also mention Fallout EG (no hundreds of years time-skip unlike the original, all canon characters are living that hell): all canon characters have great takes, but special mention are pony Twi (the human one is mentioned, but yet to be seen), Sunny, and Rarity are stand outs

-Inner Demons: Twi, and Applebloom

-Equestrian Epona: Yes, THAT Epona is the mother of the Apples

-There was one if reformed Sunny before Rainbow Rocks came out. I liked her since then

-All American Girl: The main star is an OC, but on the canon character's side, there are Twi, Sweetie, Lyra, and Rarity (Mainly for the main OC being her long lost daughter). Does toyline exclusive count ? If so, I could mention Minty too

This is a cop out answer on my part, but I'd say Princess Celestia. See, I love Celestia, but I am fully aware that despite the potential for an interesting look into her character, the show very rarely if ever touches on some of the more personal parts of her personality. There are tiny things like her love for cake, but that's about it.

 

The only places that someone's delved into her character is in the comics or in fanfics, the latter of which explore her thoughts following Luna's banishment like Insomnia or look into things like her playful and silly nature like Sunny Skies All Day Long.

I would have to say Twilight Sparkle. She's really interesting and entertaining in fanfics. She can also be very unique and different at times in certain stories, in my opinion.

This is a tough choice as I've got 3 of my favourite characters in fan fictions, but I think I'll go with Twilight Sparkle.
My favourite fan fic of all times is Background Pony, but Twilight appeared in many more fan fics that I love nearly as much.
Celestia is also one of the best characters and we don't really know much about her from the show, so fan fiction gives the author that free space to create stories about her and Luna's past and much more.
With Twilight there's also plenty of themes to work out as we don't know whether she's an immortal alicorn like Tia and Luna or what's her future gonna be.
I will choose Twilight, because of the fan fics such as:

1. Eternal

2. Sunset of time
3. Bluebird's song
4. Cry for eternity

5. Stairway to Equestria

 

Every single one of these stories shows us some new, fresh Twilight Sparkle and they're all interesting. There are the dark themes and the happy ones. The sad ones and the tragic ones. There are actually interesting possible shipping that I've never liked before and I think Twi is one of the most interesting characters that we can all relate to.
