Wow, I haven't posted for a long time

 

Who created MLP forums? Does anyone know about the history of the site?

As far as I know, a certain Feld0 created this site. Haven't seen him around anymore. As for history, I'm not sure how long it's been around.

Feld0 created the site on October 3rd 2011. In 2013, MLPForums merged into Poniverse as Feld0 wanted to create the biggest network of brony sites on the net. There really isn't much significant history beyond that...

I know Feld0 did a few anniversary posts for the first few years that covered a lot of the early history. I'll see if I can find them and perhaps we can add to it a little since we've had some changes since those days.

Basically,

Kurtiss contacted Feld0 saying something like "Hey, you. Wanna help me make a pony forum?" Felds agreed to it and they started up the site together, Feld0 being only 16 year old.

 

On October the 3rd 2011, MLP Forums officially opened for public.

Members joined quickly and soon they needed help to run the site. Zoop, Swoop, Dr XFizzle, Arylett and Klopp joined the team of staff.

 

Back then, the design of the site was a bit different. The layout was a little bit narrower and the navigation panel looked different (I would show screenshots but I don't have access to them atm). The site also had two features: "Pony Bulletin" which was a section in which an automated bot called Mailmare (later, uncontrollable robopony of chaos) posted daily topics about news coming from various MLP sites such as Equestria Daily. The other major feature was a chat where members of the site could talk to each other. It was a lot of fun. The badges and forum ranks we have now did not exist back then. Instead, there were these small black dots which would give you a small visual about your "rank" depending on the amount of dots.

 

Later on Kurtiss decided to step down as his role of Admin, leaving poor felds all alone :c

 

That didn't stop the staff from moving on though. Shortly after, a lot of new Subsections were added, moved around, and a whole new world was opened. Literally. This was the start of MLP Forums Role Play World. Soon enough came other neat things such as badges, however we were also left with the sad news that the Chat was closing down. I'm too lazy to write a long story about it but to be brief, the mods just couldn't keep up. Btw, Feld0 loves when members keep asking him to bring back the chat (y).

 

Time went on and suddenly, Feld0 was kidnapped by the Mailmare bot. This unfortunate event lead to the extermination of the Pony Bulletin section and poor Mailmare was now unemployed :c

 

Summer.

During this time, a lot of people joined the site.. and I mean, A LOT. The staff could not keep up so they got a lot of new moderators. A change was made to the staff user groups and a whole bunch of confusing new titles were created. Global Moderator, Section Moderator, Super Moderator, etc etc there were more which I don't even remember.

 

Soon after that, I believe during Bronycon and Feld0's *cough* embarrassing *cough* panel, he revealed his plans for the community. Poniverse was born. With stuff like pony arcade and pony ...uh I forgot the name. Synchtube ripoff, as well as pony.fm things were you know, growing...

 

..Anyway, people were apparently getting tired of some of the badges for whatever reason. More specifically two certain ones.

 

 

This was the "Brony" badge. It was achievable at 5000 posts and was the 2nd highest badge after "Certified Brony" at 10k which nobody had at the time. People felt like these two didn't fit in well with the rest since the others were creatures from the show. They decided to get rid of them and the current badges and badge numbers we have now has been used since.

 

After that there wasn't really a lot of things going on. The site's design was changed to what it is now and I haven't really kept up with the news since. lol

 

 

And they lived happily ever after.
