Is Sunset Shimmer The Equestria Girls Starlight Glimmer?

This is a theory that I've been looking over for a little bit now, and I wanna see if It's actually legit. I'm hoping Legend Of Everfree might say something about this, but looking at the trailer it probably won't. Basically, looking at Season 5 of the show and the Equestria Girls movies, I've noticed what's kind of a parallel connection between Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer. I'm gonna seperate what could prove this theory and what could disprove it. The reasons I'll provide will start small but get bigger as it keeps going.

 

FOR the theory:

 

1. The two characters names sound VERY similar.

 

2. Both of them are former villains who have been reformed in a similar way.

 

3. We haven't seen a Starlight Glimmer Equestria Girls version.

 

4. Although Sunset Shimmer is technically from the pony world, there's probably a Sunset Shimmer who belongs in this world anyway.

 

5. Names have been changed for the alternate versions of characters. Princess Celestia has become Principal Celestia. The same could apply to Sunset and Starlight.

 

AGAINST the theory:

 

1. The name similarities might be a coincidence.

 

2. While they were reformed similarly, the backstories behind them are very different.

 

3. Just because we haven't seen a Starlight Glimmer in Equestria Girls yet, doesn't guarantee we won't see one in the future.

 

4. Sunset Shimmer is from Equestria.

 

5. Celestia's name was only changed because of her status, there is no reason for Sunset and Starlight to have different names.

 

So what do you think? Do Sunset and Starlight have a connection? It'd be interesting if it was, but let's not get our hopes too high.

Starlight is the MLP FIM version of Sunset Shimmer and not the other way around.

Sunset Shimmer was the original and it shows.

That's a bit of a stretch; they're simply not the same character at all, and a pony can't be another pony's mirror counterpart. It just doesn't work that way.

If they don't show starlight in the newest film, it might show they really are alternate versions of the same character, in a way.

 

Although it may not be that simple.

Thanks, though I'll admit there are holes in my theory, so I might be wrong, but even if they aren't the same character, I think there might still be a connection between them.

I think you mean 2017 there. But while it would be cool, it probably won't happen. Sunset Shimmer Isn't around in Equestria anymore, and the movie's about the pony world. I'm thankful for that, don't get me wrong, I love me some EG, and I'm excited for Legend Of Everfree, but I wanna see a movie that's JUST about Equestria.
