@@captainborgue,

Zeke's eyes fixated on the burning cup before it was snuffed out.

"That. Is. So. COOL!"

He half shouted the last part, earning him some irritated stares.

He paws were shaking, and he could barely contain his excitement.

He noticed the embarrassed smile and decided to snuff out any self doubt.

"That has to be the best thing I've ever seen!!!"

His excited paws played with the lighter on the chord around his neck that he always had with him.

She takes the song in for a few moments before responding, as if remembering the time she'd last heard it. "Yes...yes I remember this, I was up studying like two in the morning then this came on. I stopped reading and just head banged the whole time it was on it put me in a real mood to study afterwards, I think I acced the related test actually...?" She thought on it.

"Haha! I knew my program was doing some good. The freaking higher ups and the school board and the PTO said that all I would do was convert the student body to drunken worshipers of Sombra. But little did they know that not only is my music...our music, high energy, it's inspirational and made for intellectuals. This music isn't for the lowest common denominators of society. It challenges you to think, engages you, tells you to face the world! Fun fact: listeners of heavy metal also share common tastes with listeners of quote unquote 'highbrow scholarly music' in classical."

"Classical was indeed the original heavy music. Guitar virtuoso and Alcatraz/ Rising Force axeman Yngewie Malsteed? Inspired by violinist Niccolo Paganeighneigh. Former Megadeth guitarist Christ Bridledrick? Classically trained. Iron Maiden's singer Bruce Dickinsteed? Modeled his performances on theatrical opera. Stuff by composers Vagner & Beethooven? Very bass heavy, downtuned, focusing on the low end. Dark and heavy sounding stuff for it's time."

Tyra was trying her hardest to understand the more complicated side of music, but it wasn't sinking in so well. She wasn't used to modern technology common in the mainland, and all she knew about music was it was fun to sing and dance to and it was perfect for celebrations.

She kept nodding, trying her best to follow.

Quill stood there and took in what Miko was spewing out. She had to actually think about it for a few moments. "That is an interesting way of looking at the effects of your music on the student body just from my single example. But one could say that you might not have that much supporting evidence."

"Huh. That's not at all how people usually react," Nova said, a little startled at his enthusiasm. "But I'm glad to meet someone who can appreciate random things bursting into flames. Or rather, rapid onset oxidation and/or catalysis resulting in an effect that mirrors the flame emissions of a mass spectrometer. That's what Mom says, and as smart as she is and with all those big words, se's probably right," Nova said, laughing.

"Hey, you wanna see something really cool?" Nova said, with a conspiratorial wink. She took a banana out of her lunchbox, broke off a piece, and set it on the table, before eating the rest of it. "Okay, potassium. With me so far?" she asked, before pulling a small bottle out of a little first aid kit in her backpack. She dropped a single drop of the dark liquid onto the banana piece. "This is iodine. Now, this trick took me six months to figure out, ok? So no laughing," Nova said, focusing intently on the materials in the center of the table. She rubbed her hands together, and held them over the materials, concentrating intently, before the pile burst into a beautiful, lavender colored flame. A couple seconds later it fizzled out. "Tada! What do you think?"

"That, my friend, is amazing."

Zeke stared in wonder at the burning banana bit, slowly watching it turn to black ash.

"So, does this 'combustion' thing work on everything? Or is it just certain objects?"

He was very glad he'd tried to socialise, this pony had a lot more to her than meets the eye.

Tyra just slowly blinked as she tried to get what Miko was saying, but she wasn't exactly the most academic of people.

"...a-fiction-what-now?" She muttered. "I... I like that music, if that is what you mean?"

She glanced upward in thought. "Though, I wish there would be more of my homeland's music here, with all these different people..."

With the effort that's put into it both studio and live, this music deserves a heck of a lot more respect, especially among the academia. They'd be surprised at the depth of the subject matter that hard rock and metal has. Definitely few songs about falling in love, breaking up, getting back together and partying."

"According to Mom, anything can combust if you get it hot enough. So yeah, it works on anything. Something something physics, something something chemistry. I dunno," Nova said, blushing sightly. The day had taken an interesting turn. "Ok, so I don't normally do this- but since you've been pretty cool about 'stuff bursting into various colors of flames' thing, I figure what the heck. Here's my number," Nova said, blushing a little as she jotted it down on a scrap of paper. "I've gotta head to class, but we'll catch up later ok?"

Zeke grinned as he punched the numbers written on the paper into his phone. He blushed slightly, and was reminded of the blessings of fur.

He stood, pulling his board out from under the table.

"Yea, for sure! Lovely meeting you, good luck in lessons and enjoy the coffee."

He turned and pushed off on his board, putting headphones in and his phone in his pocket.

He decided to grab his motorbike from student parking, and check out the town.

He got back to his dorm, leaving his board under his bed, and he grabbed his motorbike helmet and keys.

He flipped the keys in his paws as he wandered towards the car park.

"There is taste, but most times you can say one genre or sub-genre is better from just the combination of technical skill and effort put into songwriting, composition, leads, harmonies, pitches, tuning, and being able to reenact all that in both the studio and the live setting.

In short, some of our songs may sound like noise, but the technical skill and talent involved automatically makes it better than the simplistic, synthesized pop garbage that's made all on a computer and performed 'live' with prerecorded vocals. Yet makes all the money."
