Posted to both the Metal thread and the 'song stuck in your head' thread.  A good first single. And I'm agreeing w/ most that it's better than Lords Of Summer. They've fallen behind bands like Overkill, Death Angel & Kreator. Maybe this will help them get back in the running.

Hmm, I found the track to be disappointing. Something about the production feels off. And it's strangely short for a Metallica song. I preferred Lords of Summer

Amazing track! My only gripe is that it is way too short. And awesome to see my favorite band is releasing a new album soon!

To be honest for the third time in a row I am not impressed by Metallica's work (I put Lulu aside btw). Why?

 

-as much as riffing is decent it gets repetitive to me. And main riff while being decent is not so impressive I could listen to it 100 times in a row.

-Drums sound pretty bad for my taste. I'll give cymbals and snare a break, because they sound a lot better than on St. Anger and Death Magnetic, but bass drum has a terrible sound. No real kick or "bass" sound in it. It may be considered a detail for most people, but it is not a detail for me. Especially when comparing with how it sounds on for example Opeth - Still Life in 5.1 mix, where double bass literally starts a small earthquake. 

-Lyrics as much as I can see the message and can agree with it to some degree are far from what Hetfield can do (even if he never was amazing at writing lyrics to begin with). 

 

Song is not bad, but from me it gets 6/10. Metallica can do better, sorry. 

 

Also note that this is my opinion. Everyone has right to disagree or to have different impression.

I watched the video of them playing this at their last show, and I'm honestly surprised how good it sounds live. This is a great first single, and it has me hyped up for the album.
