spoiler Could the song "A Changeling Can Change" also mean something else?

I might be thinking too deeply into this, but perhaps this song might mean something else as well, not just for Thorax, but Spike could also be singing about himself.

He was talking about that he could sometimes make mistakes in his life, and that he doesn't feel so heroic. That could reference Spike's past episodes before this season, about he used to always mess things up, and sometimes his emotions get the better of him, and he could be selfish at times, but when he says "A changeling can change", it could also be a metaphor, saying he could learn from everything from his past episodes, and change into a better him!

When he says "this changeling it seems, knows the real me", maybe it could mean there are people in the fandom that actually see the good of him, and not just his comic-relief butt-monkey role, and we'll "stay by (his) side until the end".

Like i said, I might be thinking too deeply into this, and I don't think it was the intention of the writers to be displaying this message, but that's what I see in the song. Spike looked like he was singing about the changeling, but he could also be singing about his role in MLP, and how it changed over the years!

i had a similar question with the episode in general, and i did get it answerd by the "guest"... sorry im bad with names...

if you look for my questions, they are in the first 2 pages, i think...

but to answer your question more directly, yes i do believe the song was ment to be percieved as more than just a "spike" song...

it was to show how he was learning, and growing. but thats just my thoughts.... and i may be looking into it too far as well....

(example is in the thread with...WARD, that's it!)

Honestly I thought this song was a mix of Spike admitting he makes mistakes and just tries to be the best he can and how we should accept others even if they're different and to not judge a book by its cover.

This is a definite possibility. Like others may have done in the past, he is telling others to not misjudge Thorax, just like how others may misjudge Spike. It's almost as if Spike himself is acknowledging his episodes where he basically served the role of 'trouble magnet' and is telling everyone to not judge him just from that. Now that could be entirely wrong, but how awesome would it be if that were the case? XD Spike has been incredible this season.

I think the song did have a secondary meaning to it besides Spike trying to convince everyone that Thorax is good. Spike was also mentioning his own past mistakes and errors, and during all that, that seemed to be the main reason that Twilight was the first pony, followed by Starlight, to realize how much Spike was risking his fame and friendships with everyone for Thorax.

Twilight and Spike have been together longer than any of the Mane Six after meeting Twilight, and though Twilight may have felt early on that Spike had betrayed her and Equestria for Thorax, she was soon reminded of what happened with her and Trixie, and realized she was about to make the same mistakes again with Thorax like she did with Trixie, leading her to lose her anger sooner than anyone else, and be the first to take Spike's side afterwards to convince her sister-in-law and brother to accept Thorax.

So Spike's song proved that while he may be a celebrated hero in the Crystal Empire, he's still just a little dragon and can make mistakes just as much as anyone else, but if he's willing to take responsibility and face whatever consequences that will result of it, that makes him a hero in my book.

You are absolutely right! He's a hero in my book as well! :)

Perhaps Thorax saw that the circumstances of his birth were irrelevant, it is what did with his gift of life that determined who he wanted to be

Kind of like Kung Fu Panda, the past does make you who you are, it's who you chose to be in the future.
