spoiler Buckball Season marks the return of an old character

Hello fellow brony agents, I have a report that one of our intel team members, who bravery infiltrated this morning Alamo Draft House in Texas which is mostly attended by children. This is the intel I've received:

"My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Buckball Season (S06E19)

This episode is not scheduled to air until September 3rd, 2016. I can't say much. It's certainly a great episode. Not as crazy as Discord's episode above, but a good episode all around. The show took a rather unexpected turn pretty quickly. However, that's because I didn't read the synopsis for the episode before seeing it. There is one thing that will be a surprise though. A character we haven't seen for a LOOOONG time makes a significant and wonderful appearance in this episode. I think some people may gain a new favorite pony after this... well, a few might anyway."

Good work soldier, the fandom will not forget your service

Well, enough of this super agent game , though it's an interesting bit of information. which character could that be ? Let's see what we got so far:

1-It's a sport centered episode

2-We got Dashie, AJ, Pinks and Flutters as the main characters

3-Said character is not only last seen in a long time, but implies that it was en ONLY time so far he/she've been seen

Well, by fact 1 we ca assume said character is an athlete, the could have a connection to ANY of the Mane6 directly involved in the episode, AND has been seen once a long time ago. About the latter I doubt it'll be since last season, said time range could be from S1 to S4, but I'm willing to bet it won't be from a S4 episode, but earlier. Oh, we should pay attention to this detail "... I think some people may gain a new favorite pony after this... well, a few might anyway.", that might wonder many of you what info is telling this, well I suspect it means yet ANOTHER redemption like it or not :dash:. I'm betting for ...

This episode is definitely sounding a bit more interesting now.

I am curious to see how it ends up being like.

If the show absolutely has to redeem yet another character than

Lighting Dust

doesn't seem to be that bad of a choice.

Plus that would be a character that I would like to see again.

Nope! Wouldn't make much sense for Lightning Dust to return in a non-Wonderbolt episode; or at least a non-Rainbow Dash solo or duet episode. Confirmed on VA's Wikipedia page, it's actually:

Little Strongheart! :D

We would have a possible conflict of evidence if it's Little Strongheart (the EqD source mentioned 'pony' but the phrasing was vague he could have not been talking about the guest character). That said, based on the reputation of the Wikipedia editor, it is possible we see LB return. The IP is odd though. I was hoping it would be Canadian. :(

The only way I would expect Lighting Dust is if she coaches the opposing team making this a RD vs LD episode. I don't see that happening though.

Bringing back Lightning Dust would make no sense for an episode like this, it'd make more sense to bring her back in a Wonderbolt/RD focus episode(like Top Bolt)

I'm putting my bet on Little Strongheart, she has been gone forever but was recently featured in the Friends Forever series and it would line up nicely with the release, plus the episode already features Appleoosa

My first guess was also Lightning Dust. It's been so long since we've seen her, I wouldn't be surprised if she was the guest pony, given the information in OP's post and the fact that we're kinda on a streak of redeeming old enemies.

Alternatively, it could be Iron Will? We haven't seen HIM in a while, and maybe he's some sort of motivational sports guy (such technical language, I know) . But the intel says we might gain a new "favorite pony", and since Iron Will's not a pony, he's probably not it.

Well I pretty much have forgotten about her, and it would be interesting to see her again.

I wonder what the writers would do with her this time around if this is the case.

Well, given the setting of the episode, it makes perfect sense this character would return. I was even sort of expecting this to happen since before the "secret character" hype started.

But you know what episode would make sense for Lightning Dust to return in? The Wonderbolt Academy episode that was teased at SDCC. Rainbow Dash is practically guaranteed to be in it, too, since 1.) It's a Wonderbolt episode, and 2.) Twilight is confirmed to be in it, fulfilling the only map pairing this season that hasn't been done besides PP/RT and the upcoming AJ/FS. I'm willing to bet that LD will be involved in some kind of trouble that the map wants RD and TS to fix; in fact, what was it that Jim teased just last year, again?

As soon as I read this, I thought Lightning Dust as well. Though she might be more suited for a Wonderbolt episode (probably the rumored "Top Bolt" one), like @immblueversion said above.

But then again, Viva Las Pegasus features the return of two old characters and I would've never expected to see them in an episode taking place outside of Ponyville.

Well, if those two characters appeared in Ponyville again, it'd probably get old, if you catch my drift.

OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH RIGHT, would make sense since we'd be visiting Appleloosa :muffins:

Now Dashie will see her adored Packums again

Ach, there's an official activity book that supposedly covers the entire plot of "Top Bolt", and neither Lightning Dust nor Wind Rider are anywhere to be mentioned. Oh, well...

Still, this means we can look forward to something new. At least I haven't gone into detail over what the episode is about.
