general media A new first: Mainstream Sunday Funnies have a Unicorn character!

So, last Sunday I took a stroll through a park gazebo and did something I haven't done in close to a decade-and-a-half; I took a look at today's newspaper comics.

Yep, you read that right, an actual physical-print newspaper, just like our parents read back in the 20th century. Most of the stuff that's been there since ancient Egypt is still running; Garfield, Peanuts, Beetle Bailey, *yawn*, but then I saw something I NEVER expected here. There's a new comic featuring a talking unicorn as a regular character, and it's actually a good laugh! Think "Calvin and Hobbes" in an alternate reality, but gender-swapped and not as mean-spirited. Though it really caught my eye because this the LAST place I'd expect to find something this pony-ish in realspace. Linkage:

Just figured I'd share it with those who may be interested, since it brightened up an otherwise dull day for me. Let me know what you think,

Hey Trin,

On further review staff has reopened this topic for discussion (comic strips in general or a valid type of media) and you go into a well laid out narrative discussion on the surprise discovery of one of the better and more recent strips. I did move it to Media since it fits there.

I definitely enjoy this one, and while newspaper publication sales and readership levels have been steadily declining over the years, it is nice to see new strips finding their way into the old school funny pages.

Many thanks, Guard Jeric *bow of respect* and I'm glad to to hear our community leaders found some enjoyment here as well. I just recently returned to the boards after a short sabbatical to work on my novel; sometimes I can get a bit rusty on socializing and something I post may be misunderstood by some. Apologies to any who heard it the wrong way, no troublemaking was intended. :P

Interesting find. It does have a sort of Calvin and Hobbes vibe to it and I read it in Claire Corlett's (Sweetie Belle) voice as Phoebe and Tabitha St. Germain's (Rarity, but sounding more like Martha from Martha Speaks) voice as the Unicorn. Many lols.

I do that too sometimes in my mind; I can audialize an actress's voice as a character's as well as visualizing movement, like making a flash animation in my head. I imagined Nicole Oliver's for Marigold myself, too bad my brain's got no usb port.
