'One who wields a blade, does so for only oneself. The life of a warrior is not inspired by justice, nor evil, nor moral--but the ambition to change the world. One mustn't allow one's vision to be blurred, by pain nor emotion, whilst one pursues his desires. For one's life is not ended by the pain of death. It ends, once one has abandoned his dream.'

~Griffonstone inscription, before the fall of the kingdom.

Ice Blizzard had heard about this strange mountain in the old city of Griffonstone that had to do with a strange power and monsters or something. To him, it sounded like something out of a AAA comic book or video game. But knowing Equestria, this stuff was very much more than real. Because of it, it naturally drew his curiosity.

This is why he was currently on the train to Griffonstone. He simply could not wait for the possibilities and sheer fun he would have here. Who knows? Maybe he would even learn something new from all of this. In any event, the train was rolling along the tracks to Griffonstone, and Ice was kicking back in his seat. He passed the time by reading his book, wondering about who else would be going as well...

Copper had heard legends about a mountain at Griffinstone, one that where many traveled, but only a few came back.  He was excited on the inside to see what this new adventure would await him.

He looked out the window for a bit before turning his head to what looked like a fellow Earth Pony who had an snowflake as a cutie mark.  He said to the pony, "So, are you headed to the mountain?  Because I am, and I can't wait to see what challenges are in store there."

@@DwhitetheGamer,

Ice didn't pay him much attention at first, and looked up at him after a moment. "Eh? Yeah, I've been prepping up for quite some time. It's been years since I first heard about it and now I think I'm ready to face the challenges." He shrugged, "And maybe learn a new thing or two about myself and my abilities. Everyone can stand to learn something new, right?"

Inside another train car, an earth pony mare was sat by the window. She was staring out the window, grinning brightly as she watched the world rush by.

Being quite a worldly traveller, she had heard about the legend of the Griffonstone mountain from a reliable source. Which, to her, was a drunken sailor griffon in a Trottingham tavern. All she had gathered from his slurring was that climbing the mountain was a seemingly impossible challenge that only a number of souls had accomplished.

Though, looking back on it, she was just as drunk at the time.

In any case, her braided tail waggled with excitement as the train rushed on toward Griffonstone. The thought of having her name etched into history as one of the warriors who passed the mountain's trials was just too enticing to pass up.

Copper nodded at the pony, a bit confident that he could learn something from this.  Maybe he could try to make this Earth Pony stronger and more skilled during this venture?  Who knows, but at least he was willing to learn.

"Same here.  Ever since finishing my six years of magic training with Princess Celestia, I wanted to test myself, and the mountain's a great place to try and put my skills to said test."

He realized he hadn't introduced himself to the pony.  He would have to so that he could try and be at least friends with him.  "My name's Copper Strikes.  What's your name?"

@@DwhitetheGamer,

Ice could tell by guy's speech that Copper was a bit up there in terms of performance--in Copper's head anyway. Regardless in Ice's head, he bit back the urge to burst out laughing like someone had just asked him for a ridiculous pay raise. That, however, wasn't important.

What was important was at least seeing what this guy was about. "Ice Blizzard. Nice to meet you." He sat back in his seat.

Copper nodded once again at Ice, saying to him, "Pleasure to meet you, too, Ice."

He then noticed Ice's cutie mark again, and he had a weird, and confusing, feeling that this pony was something else, like he was.  But it was better to ask something else similar to the question, than to state it directly.

"So, how did you get your talent?  My gut's telling me that you don't just love snowflakes."

@@DwhitetheGamer,

"Eh? This thing?" Ice looked up, wondering to himself if it was the best idea to reveal his capabilities to someone he barely knew. Of course, he wasn't the type to simply ignore a question either. So he simply settled on a grayer answer. "Well, I was sorta born up north. Have a shtick with the cold, ya know?"

@@J.R.

"C'mon, tell the truth."

Copper was a little antsy, since he thought that Ice had a lot more than just living in the cold.  Then, he basically said to himself, 'Screw it.'

"How about I tell a story of how I got my magic first, then you tell me what you have as powers?  I'll start by saying that up until six years ago, I wanted to learn magic like the unicorns do.  I traveled across the world, trying to find the answer, but I ended up having to rely on Princess Celestia, who gave me a book that was shelved in the old Castle of the Royal Sisters.  That book was one that Starswirl the Bearded wrote, trying to let Earth Ponies learn magic before his disappearance 1000 years ago.  Princess Celestia then had cast an advanced, permanent spell on me, letting me control magic just like a unicorn."

He didn't waste any time showing it off, as he used his hoof to levitate his saddlebags that he brought with him.  He did so for a few seconds before setting them down and continuing.  "During the next six years, I trained under her and learned a lot of magic abilities, from healing, to levitating myself so I could fly, and types of magic blasts to defend myself from enemies."

He smiled at Ice, wanting to know his type of power.  "So what kind of powers do you have?"

@@DwhitetheGamer,

Ice tilted his head, somewhat dubious about the entire thing and just how much weight his piece held in the grand scheme of things. He didn't really ask for what he was about, and he's just showing off for some reason? This wasn't exactly entertaining to him. The story, nor the book.

Of course, Ice tried to be as respectful as he could whenever he could. Despite this, he simply didn't feel he owed this guy any sort of explanation on anything. However, he didn't show his disinterest up front.  "Hey, cool story, bro. It sounds like you have a really really formidable skillset that no one should try and mess with." In his head he rolled his eyes.

"But if I did have any powers, I'd show someone better than I could tell them when the time came." He shrugged, "So yeah."

In all of his travels, it was rather typical to get lost. Of course that would imply that he knew where he was going or knew where he had been, which more often then not, he didn't.

However despite this, Griffon Stone was not a place he expected to find himself, let alone this town at the base of a moutain

"... Well a pony should get to know other cultures, and what better place to do that then a Griffon tavern?" he told himself, as was common, little did he know the importance of this village or the moutain in the distance

At the moment he just wanted a drink and pushing the door to what was obvious the tavern he did his best not to feel out of place and walked up to the bar "Um yes a stout please..."

"...Sure. Haven't had that order in a while, lemme see if we have any...Well, any that're fresh." She added that last comment, looking under the counter, and scowling as if she saw some sludge bubbling in a container. Hurrying to check the backroom, if they had any unopened, preserved stout.

Rhetoric would start to feel watched, as he waited. Just about every being in that tavern, watching him, sizing him up, as if they all expected him to be some hero from where he hailed from...Boy were they wrong...

Copper mentally shook his head.  He had figured as much that he wouldn't know Ice's abilities, nor did the other pony believe him.  He sighed, saying to him, "Alright.  If you say so."  The tone in his voice was the indication that he wasn't pleased at all with Ice, and add to that fact, he slumped on his seat, looking a little upset.

The mare laid across the train seats, stretching out her limbs as she stared out the window. As excited as she was for her upcoming journey up the mountain, the train ride was starting to get dull.

She began pacing up and down the car, to no avail. She flopped on the ground, groaning as she stared up at the ceiling.

"This boredom, it is a stronger opponent than an angry manticore."

Ice shrugged. He didn't really have much of a reason to feel bad. If he wanted to simply not share his abilities, it was his choice. What wasn't his choice, however, was how well Copper would accept it. And by the looks of it, it seemed to him that Copper didn't take kindly to it at all.

Such is the way of the inevitable.

Regardless, with his reading environment now disturbed, Ice figured the best thing to do would be to locate another car to continue his waiting. So that's what he did. "See ya." He flashed Copper a grin before exiting the car through the door. From there, he entered the next car over.

Much to his surprise, he saw a familiar face. "Ey, Tyra!"

Tyra's ears pricked up upon hearing a familiar voice. She rolled onto her front and looked up at an equally familiar blue stallion.

A huge grin crossed her muzzle, since not only a good friend was on the train with her, but her boredom had finally been averted.

"Ah! Ice Blizzard!" She chirped, and sprang up to wrap her hooves around his neck. "It has been too long, my friend! How are you? Are you also travelling to Griffonstone?"

Welp, there goes Copper's plan to make friends with Ice.

He shook his head physically now.  He couldn't believe he was denied friendship, especially this way.  He looked completely irritated now, and to add salt to the already big wound, he was racking his brain, thinking of what the hell Ice's abilities were.

He needed a strong drink.

And that was exactly what he was going to do.  He got up from his seat and walked to the next car, completely ignoring Ice and his apparent friend, though one look at his eyes would tell them that he was still irritated at the Earth Pony.

As he walked into the tavern, he took a seat at the bar, and waved his hoof at the bartender.  "I would like a strong drink, please."

Ice didn't bother paying the other pony any mind. He simply put his hoof to his forehead, shaking his head. "Unfortunately, not everyone is as friendly as you on this train. For some reason he wanted to know about my abilities and said for me to tell him mine since he told me his. Spouted some long story stuff about going to Celestia's school, and I just..."

Realizing he was probably being a bore, Ice shook his head, putting his hoof down. "Eh, not important." He leaned in and whispered into Tyra's ear, "Though, I will say I've seen plastic toy soldiers with more tact."

Copper nodded automatically, and fumbled in his saddlebags, finding his I.D.  Eventually, he found it, and showed it to the stallion in question.  "Here it is.  I'm at 22 years and counting."

And it showed, his I.D. had his birth date, which was 22 years ago, and the smile that's shown in his face.
