Do the new writers hate Twilight?

This is just a theory, mind you, but with how Twilight feels like a supporting character this season, do you think the new writers hate her?

(Edit: Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Random guy in the background: Finally! He admits it!

Me: Oh, be quiet.)

I hope that in Season 7 (if we get one), there will be much less Starlight, and hopefully, much less Rainbow Dash as well, and more Pinkie Pie (who, by the way, hasn't appeared much than in the previous seasons).

Actually, I think it should be much less Rarity, cause she's had a lot of appearances this season.

Only in the first half, 'cause in the second half, her screen time declined. So I say a modest amount of screen time for Rarity next season might be better.

Twilight Sparkle's becoming more like Celestia (all-powerful alicorn, teacher and mentor), and now she has the screen-time to match.   In reality, no, the writers don't hate her, but they've likely been given a mandate to make Starlight a large presence so that people will buy all of her playsets and toys. (For me, Twilight's absence was rather startling in Buckball Season when literally every other horned horse showed up.)

You do have a point. What's the point in being a toy company if you can't sell toys.

Sugarcube, the new writers hate everypony.

Lol, I was really tempted to just leave my post at that.  In all seriousness, the new team has resulted in the most turbulent season yet in terms of characterization.  And also, the more characters they introduce, the harder it is to make screentime for them.  Twily shouldn't take it personally.  But I'd like to see a proper spotlight of her soon.  It's been a long time.  But you know what's gonna happen the instant they do another Twilight spotlight, right?  They could wait 10 seasons to do one, and the instant we get a Twilight spotlight: thread after thread after thread of "WHY DOES TWILIGHT HAVE TO BE SHOEHORNED INTO EVERY EPISODE?  NOPONY ELSE GETS A CHANCE!  THIS HAS BECOME THE F*CKIN TWILIGHT SPARKLE SHOW!"  You know it's true.

Also, I see a lot of people griping about Starlight stealing too much screentime this season.  I'm not really sure where this is coming from, as there really hasn't been that much of her.

  • Co-star in The Crystalling
  • Co-star in No Second Prances
  • Played Scrooge in the Christmas Carol thing.  (Barely gonna count that)

Other than that, it was just a few cameos.  I think she was on the train to the Crystal Empire in Changeling, but I don't recall her saying anything or doing anything once they arrived.  I'm just not really sure where the complaints are coming from.  Personally, I thought her stories and development in The Crystalling and No Second Prances were really good and interesting, and I'd like to see more of her.  I may be in the minority of bronies who really like her.

(For me, Twilight's absence was rather startling in Buckball Season when literally every other horned horse showed up.)

Except for Rarity and Starlight.  They excluded every main horned pony.

What's the point in being a toy company if you can't sell toys.

Or a weapons company that doesn't make weapons?

You have a point. Ironic, really. Because if I remember correctly, the only time she was shoehorned into every episode was back in season one.

Considering how all pitches are approved by non authorial personel after the summit, I would posit that the writers as a group having a hatred for a specific character to be an over-simlification.

Twilight being written as more of a support character is actually something I am not against. Twilight has essentially hit her peak. She is the princess of friendship, she has a castle and now she even has her own student. So moving her to the back a bit lets other characters shine more. So that to me makes sense.

However, what I have noticed this season that has sorta bothered me is in at least a few episodes this season, they have really written Twilight like an idiot. On more than a few occasions she has been completely wrong on different things in episodes this season and it has made her look like a fool. I am not saying she should be infallible or anything but, I dunno, it just seemed out of character even in that regard. Luckily it hasn't been as bad lately. I don't think this is a result of the new writers hating her, but more like perhaps they are not entirely sure how to write her into certain scenarios.

Maybe Josh Haber hates Twilight and try his hardest to become story editor one day... to replace Twilight with Starlight... Or Big Jim hates Twilight. Or THX cant pay Tara Strong anymore. Too many possibilities... I gave up...

Dont worry, the movie will solve this problem. Twilight will be relevant once again. I dont think Starlight will appear in the movie so Twilight spotlight will be safe.

NOBODY hates Twilight! Starlight is actually part of Twilight's story! Starlight is now what Twilight was in seasons 1 and 2! She's her student, she's part of her story! I mean maybe Twilight isn't being used as much because they don't have many story ideas for her.

This is not just about Twilight. Actually, it’s about being a professional writer for a commercial product.

Our glorious writers are lost, unable to develop characters whose stories they have falsely deemed concluded. In this regard, they are not unlike Tite Kubo, the author of Bleach, who solves his plot problems by creating incredulous amounts of new characters every time he doesn’t know what to do.

Thus Starlight is not so much a character but a symptom of their incompetence and lack of insight into the entrails of fantasy. The same goes for Twilight being Celestia’d and for those rushed, uneventful, and uninspired conclusions of Mane 5 story arcs that have been with us since the first season.

Shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame!

Do you really think new writers get to decide which charcaters get new starring epsiodes? I assume the showrunners make sure they get as much with every chacarcter they want so blame them if anyone. But I think it is funny that people dislike when Twilight is used a lot and people dislike when she is used little...it can be hard to find a balance. I would like more Twilight but I am sure more is coming, at least some if now enough. And the Starlight centric season arc is about Twlight as a teacher as well and the other mane 6 ponies do not have season long arch at least.

You when you put it that way, it does sound silly.

All this means is that most of the writers' story ideas don't involve Twilight Sparkle, and that's arguably for the best, because I swear that her focus episodes are mostly growing less and less interesting. I mean, "No Second Prances" had her re-learn something which she learned just a few episodes ago, for crying out loud, so I can't say I'm all that frustrated that she's being given a break, considering how little the writers seem to know what to do with her anymore. So if she's being given a break for presently more interesting characters like Rainbow Dash and Rarity to take the spotlight, then I'm all for it.

The problem is that the only arc that Josh could come up with Twilight to follow, now that she's got her princess stuff under control, is to be a teacher. This is not a bad goal in and of itself. Unfortunately, to do this, instead of just focusing on her with a modicum of multiple ponies under her that she tutors or watches out for, she's been given a Single personal protege in starlight.

As such, twilight's Episodes are basically starlight episodes, as in order to show twilight's growth as a teacher we instead get episodes Revolving around starlight herself and how SHE'S growing, in order to, as a side effect of Starlight's growth, show how Twilight's growing as a teacher.

To say this isn't working out perfectly would be an understatement.

It's very rare that I disagree with anything you say, Kyoshi, but this is one of those rare times.  Now, I definitely don't oppose opportunities for others to shine, and making time for everypony is always going to be a challenge when you have a large ensemble cast and short episodes to work with.  However, I would never say that a characters has hit a peak, thereby reducing their possible development.  No offense intended whatsoever, but to me, statements like this make Twilight sound more like a maxed out video game character with nowhere to go.  This isn't the case at all.  There's tons they can do with her.  The possibilities are still endless, but more often than not, they seem to ignore the best opportunities.  I, for one, have long wanted to see Twilight faced with some sort of ethical dilemma that she can't solve by herself, and needing Celestia's help (thereby bringing Tia back to the front as a competent guide and mentor).  I always wanted some real development of their relationship, which we never got in my opinion.

In real life, people don't just stop when they hit some arbitrary line in the sand where they've achieved certain goals.  Life just keeps going.  Something else is always on the horizon.  Just because Twilight has come a long way doesn't mean that her story is done, and it certainly doesn't mean she needs to become the new Celestia.  (I.e. a flat background pony)  Now, I realize you weren't advocating just stuffing Twilight into a closet with Celestia.  I know that.  And there's nothing wrong with focusing on others.  But I just feel that when it comes to fiction, there's something special and important about the character(s) that we started this journey with.  In a way, the audience feels as though they made this journey with them.  Twilight has always been the main character to an extent, and I don't want her to fade away.  I want her to continue developing and being challenged right through to the end.

Oh yeah, absolutely.  I agree 100%.  It's annoying.

I don't really think so, mostly because it's always been a requirement that when Twilight undergoes another stage of development, she must be rewarded massively for it. And the truth is, what could she really receive now? She's a princess with a castle, and now with her own student. What's next?

I really like the sound of this. It's just too bad that I think Celestia is simply done being involved in anything worthwhile.
