If the movie was the end of the mane six's story...

I honestly wouldn't mind. The Mane Six have grown and their adventures are coming to an end. So seeing new and different characters take on the main roles of either the existing or new show will be neat to see.

If they move on from the mane six, there won't be a season seven, they would most likely make it a whole new series.

I honestly do think they're going to move on from Twilight though.

What would your response be if the 2017 movie was the end of the mane six's role as being the mane characters and wrapped up their story, and Starlight and her new band that she'll form in the s6 finale will be the mane characters for FIM from S7 onward?

I don't know if they would outright replace the cast in the movie (they could; Hasbro's done it before), but I wouldn't be surprised at all if there was at least a major status quo change.

I think it's more likely they will continue with the mane 6, but I could see them doing that. I think it would be good. They need to wrap up the mane 6's story eventually, and it would make sense to sort of "pass the torch" to a new group of characters. They could easily use the movie to do that.

I don't want to see the mlp I know and love end or change ;-; I have been trying to get in the mindset of it ending but every time I see a thread like this I get a horrible gut feeling T-T I want these ponies to last forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It brings me to tears that all good things must come to an end T-T

I'd like to point out that the movie can't and won't end the Mane Six's story. There are simply too many loose threads, and to end the movie there would be, frankly, unprofessional.

There's alot of loose threads, but to be honest, I don't think most loose threads will ever get tied up, but rather just ignored until they're forgotten, like explaining what starswirl's spell was supposed to be, or explaining the tree of harmony, or delving into Alicorn history (though the movie's original Plot was that I think, but got savaged by producers for requiring prior knowledge of the universe to understand).

Not saying I THINK they'll change the mane six after the movie (this is just a what if question), but I don't think the loose ends that exist are going to be touched on, rather they'll just keep going onward and building new stuff. (like we haven't gotten a lightning dust return episode despite that screaming "recurring antagonist")

additionally, Hasbro is NOTORIOUS for leaving loose ends never finished in their series: You could fill a book with the loose ends from Transformers prime for example (Like Airachnid and her zombie armie on the moon)

I can't accept that. If they conclude the show without bringing up these issues, I will have no choice but to look down upon the show with a heavy glance. It would be unfortunate too, as I am quite fond of the show.

How long do you think the show will go on for? Its already 6 seasons in and that's pretty old for a kids show with ongoing plots. Plus, rather than tying up lose ends, the staff prefers to introduce NEW plot threads-- usually bringing in new stuff hooks new viewers far more than developing pre-existing plot threads, and for a merchandise driven show like this aimed at kids they GREATLY value new viewers more than old viewers due to the fleeting demographic rule.

I would love for the series to go on until it finishes all its plot threads, but I think its unrealistic to expect it, sadly.

The show should go on for as long as it needs to. Whether it be seven seasons or forty seasons, the promise of a show is that it will give a story that introduces itself and concludes itself. To introduce new plot threads this far into the show is bad writing, and the show I know and love is better than that.

Kids deserve better than that.

I really don't want to see a season 7, and I would rather them become the main characters of a G4.5 series. But if this were the case, than I could easily just pretend FIM ended with the movie and skip it.

I'd be frustrated. These characters still have plenty of potential, even if the writers and many fans can't see it. A fresh cast might help with character development, but if the writers don't have any good ideas for the main characters of this show, then they should wrap it up and start the next iteration. It's been six years, and while I'd be sad at all the potential left unexplored, that's a pretty healthy lifespan for any show. If a show goes on for too long, it runs the very real risk of running out of steam.

The mane 6 need to go out on a strong note, and the movie might be the best chance for that. Though I really have little interest in a lot of the secondary characters, so of the series continued without them, I would not be interested in watching anymore.

That wouldn't be bad, honestly. I'd rather they go out strong than dragging on and on for eternity. I'm set for the movie ending FiM, but I'm not against it continuing with Starlight and her new friends as main characters. She's easily the best character in Season SIx for me, anyway.
