If you were President, how would you deal with an IRL Idiocracy?

Say, you are being elected as the President of your country, and you had to deal with a nation that is like the "Uh-merica" of the movie "Idiocracy".

That country is extremely notorious in that most of its people are absolute fools whose commercialised culture and devotion to crude, excessively-vulgar entertainment have ruined their miserable nation.

How would you deal with that nation? Should it be left alone, or should someone take action in case if they bring trouble to your country?

EDIT: That nation is not under your control, but is a foreign state.

fix the education system if it's broken.

Hm. Wow that's kind of tough. Since they'd have no sense, they probably wouldn't even follow laws.

Perhaps martial law, until things get under control, then a huge reform of the education system.

I really don't know. I have no idea how the system works.

That nation itself is a foreign state.

Would this be not more appropriate for the debate pit, since it warrants a rather controversial-ish discussion? Anyways, there's not much you can do with congress around, at least I would centralize power more and attempt many different methods to influence the presidency's authority OVER congress. That would allow for so many reforms, changes... but the downside would be that it would turn more into a dictatorship rather than an actual "democratic" republic. There's not much the government can do over people's stupidity, really... at most it would be to change the education's system.

.. wait, we're talking if we had our own country? aaaaa sorry-

If they're exactly like the movie, I'd doubt they would survive for very long... As president of my country I would sit and wait and take care of my own nation's people, who need my attention much more than that fictional Dystopia.

Ignore them until they became a nuisance. Send people in with cameras for my people's entertainment.

If it comes to war, nuke them and claim that I dropped a star on them, and can do it with all the others as well. Accept nothing but unconditional surrender. Send them all to (legitimate) education camps and claim America as lebensraum for my nation. Hopefully It would be unfucked within two or three generations.

If I was in control of America at the time, then I would resign, and abandon it for some other first world country.

If I am a president for another country than I would say to avoid America, and not deal with it at all.

Fix the incredibly broken education system, fix the mental health care system and encourage smart decision making through incentives.

In other words if it was exactly like it is now? Okay, joking aside I would use my own intelligence to my advantage while planning for the long term. In other words I would try to re direct their baser instincts as best as I could while doing what I could to fix the educational and mental health systems so that future generations could climb out of that mess. I would have to be somewhat of a dictator which I wouldn't be too thrilled about, but I would try to plan to shrink government enough to where my successor hopefully won't reverse too much of what I had done.

This ^^. I think the solution is education, and the United States has a very broken education system. The first step to solving a problem is recognizing and understanding it, and we can't do that if people don't have a decent education.

Bill Gates said that the school system in the US needs to be fixed. google it if you don't believe me.

If the idiocracy mentioned is not the nation I'm President of, then I don't really think there's much I'd be able to do apart from offer suggestions ("fix the educational system", "hire police", etc)

Perhaps my nation would be able to go through the United Nations and try to send aid (including educators) to this idiocracy.

I believe they're talking about the fictional "America" in Idiocracy, not the actual United States. The topic is about if you have your own "Idiocracy" country after all, not pointing out problems your country actually has.

Anyway, what I think is the more straightforward but most likely the most unethical way is to...pick out intelligent people, do away with the rest, educate them only. Basically it's eugenics, though really, the movie makes itself in a very absurd light. It's satire, after all. The notion that lower IQ people would produce offspring also of low IQ is silly. The message of the movie really isn't saying that it's possible to be an idiocracy or that the U.S. is becoming one, but is actually portraying the power of the ignorant and how heavily they can influence culture.

Whoever thinks the US is becoming a real idiocracy has some really poor faith in that country.

Yeah I get that, but to be fair I would imagine that the fictional America in "idiocracy" probably also has an broken education system. My answer still stands.

And I actually don't think our country is becoming an idiocracy. Sure, there are plenty of ignorant idiots, but there are also plenty of smart, reasonable people who are trying their best. Even though I don't like the current state of my country, I haven't lost hope for my country or the human race.

Oh, I love that movie! Good times...gooood times.  :-P

I think just work with gradual education. Just motivate the people by convincing them that the way back to progress is through better minds, not booze, electrolytes, and "lattes".  :proud:
