If... any of the main 6 die in the movie?

No, I highly doubt anypony at all will be killed off, but even if it did happen, I highly, highly doubt it would be any of the mane six.

Yeah, kids shows can get a bit dark sometimes, even MLP can. But killing off one of the mane characters that the audience, both child and adult has grown to love over the last 6 seasons in the big movie of this show about pastel magical horses learning the value of friendship doesn't sound quite right.

Plus, that'd just be a downer wouldn't it? You go into this animated film about your favorite Cartoon Equines looking for a good time and bam, Fluttershy's dead or something. Geez, that sounds pretty miserable.

Common trope is if someone dies, they end up being "revive" and that's super predictable by a mile. Look at most children's movies even where death is depicted, in the end the main or background character gets saved but usually not the antagonist. It's tired and overplayed so I hope that the movie won't go in that path so no deaths.

It's not like death is forbidden in children's stuff.  I mean for cripes sake, someone dies in every Disney movie.  Like, seriously, I can't think of a Disney movie without at least one death.  Maybe Dalmatians.  (Cruella was just chewing out Horas and Jasper at the end.)  In times past, they were pretty hardcore about it, like Prince Eric f*ckin' skewering Ursula through the gut.  But I'm pretty sure FIM will always steer away from depicting real death.  The closest we'll get is Sombra, which is just the DBZ-style eradicated-in-a-flash-of-light thing.

I for one, think it would be awesome to have the death of an actual character, if it was well written and a good story, but not one of the mane 6.  That would suck.

The only character I could see dying would be Celestia (to do a passing the torch thing)

I could see that, too.  I would like that as well.  I mean, I love Celestia, but seeing as how they've diminished her role, it wouldn't feel like that much of a loss, and it would be fitting in many ways.  It seems like the series has been leading towards Twilight taking her place some day, and that's always what I kind of wanted.  I think Celestia is probably also very tired, not just of ruling, but perhaps of just living.  I don't mean she wants to die, per se.  It's more like the elves in middle earth.  Like, her time in this world is done, y'know?  Except there's no ship in Equestria to take her to the Grey Havens.  I think it would be cool if she sacrificed herself to save Equestria.  Think about it--perhaps the mane 6 fail this time.  Perhaps rainbows and friendship aren't enough, and things look to be at there most grave at the climax of the movie.  Then Celestia has some heartfelt exchange with Twilight, telling her she's ready and so forth, then sacrifices herself to stop the enemy.  It would be intense, unexpected, and it would ironically bring Celestia back as an admirable and useful character in her final act.  I predict that most fans wouldn't have a problem with such a decision, but I know Hasbro wouldn't do it.

If they were to kill off Tia, it should totally look like this:

Y'know, with Vincet/Chaos being Tia.  Except that Vincent actually survived....so....y'know, disregard that.

To be honest, I'd prefer a master oogway type scene, where she fades away in a very dignified way without any real darkness or angst, but just a focus on both sadness and hope as she leaves everything in twilights hooves.

More of a "its my time, and I believe in you" kind of thing.

I doubt it would happen with the Mane6, unless they get revived at the end or something . It's possible they kill other chaacters like Celly or any big good they make for whatever new place they'd be visiting there ..... and the main villain of course  :orly:

To have somepony "die" in the movie while the show hasn't touched this particular subject directly(not counting Tank's hibernation, the funeral scene, AJ's parents) seem like a risk Hasbro is doing on their part. Sure, it's the big movie so they got to make something meaningful and impactful for audiences but that's no excuse to not depict death in the show. If they really want to show real death in the movie I'm up for it but what I'm saying is, it should of been covered already.

I don't really see any of the mane 6 dying in the movie.

Celestia on the other hand...

Celly would be a good candidate, as mentor, big good, and stuff archetype characters usually kick the bucket. Though apparently, we'd be exploring a foreign kingdom of the long waited sea ponies, and I doubt Celly will be directly involved there. Maybe whoever rules that place or something

It's not risky in the slightest. Disney and Dreamworks do it every other movie.

While don't strictly consider this show to be a 'children's show' like most in the fandom apparently do, I still don't think they would ever do this. Having any character be specifically killed that isn't a super baddie is potentially a disaster waiting to happen. The fandom could potentially implode, again.

The problem with killing off Celestia is that, the movie is gonna have to do a really good job of getting people to care, because between having no episodes in six seasons, and the writers constantly making her look worse every season, most people will just be pissed, feeling that she was given the ultimate middle finger, especially Celestia's fans

Far less likely than - say, Kylo Ren killing Han Solo. If any of the Mane 6 dies, all those fans will be traumatized for life, no one's going to buy the merchandise anymore, and there will be far less stories possible. Sure, the final battle may involve a heroic sacrifice from Twilight (preferably by emptying all her magic into an enemy mothership's core at point-blank range), but do you really think her friends are just going to stand there and watch her fall to her death?

While I don't think anypony will die, they could most certainly give us the impression that somepony died (until we learn shortly afterwards that they're actually still alive).  Not the most original trope, but it can still be done effectively.

Don't think it will happen, no.

That said, in general the six could die together. This might be what the writers meant that Twilight will not outlive her friends. If they all die together, she really did not outlive them.

one thing though, I could only see celly dying IF they were to make the Movie either the end of the series, or were converting the show into being purely movie form from then on instead of a series; That's just such a giant status quo change that it only really works as a "close the book" thing.

straight dog talk here, I think its pretty obvious the staff just said that to more or less get rid of that question without having to deal with that issue, giving a fairly ambiguous answer (it doesn't say whether or not twilight is immortal) while knowing that they'll NEVER have to actually face up to that question and truly give a conclusion.
