Starlight Glimmer for me.

Starlight Glimmer has it all going for her, a path to destroy everypony's lives with a time spell and ultimately twisting realities to create a living realm of terror but yet she found friendship. What ruthless pony would throw away her evil ways so just she may even given a second chance from the very ones who she was destroying? Starlight Glimmer not only given the hardest test for the Magic of Friendship, the mane 6, and for even Twilight but the agonizing scrutiny to overcome her own demons as she fights for what wrongdoings she committed herself not only gives hope to those who face similar hardships but to embrace it too.

It takes alot to change who you are and it doesn't come overnight and it's no easy road either, look at her and we may see a little bit of us in her and a little bit of me. We can all relate in some way to Starlight even though it hard to do so. Friendships doesn't end here or there, divides or choses but it changes and transforms itself into something we might even don't know. In that alone Starlight actions, struggles, remorse, acceptance, and who she is makes me believe that a villain doesn't have to be perfect but the one that I can relate to, the one who feels real.

Discord as a villain. He was funny, threatening, and incredibly charismatic. Great villain.

If you discount him due to him being Redeemed, chrysalis. Hammy, dark, a great VA, and just fun to watch.

Night Mare Rarity, but of course!

Ah, but he said SHOW, not comics :P

Sad that we'll never see nightmarity again; it was so utterly refreshing to see a focus on another character turning evil from the other 5. rather sad that it was more of another being possessing her instead of "Her" being evil though, though at least nightmarity kept her mannerisms.

I believe Discord, because Discord is a villan, who changes the whole world, makes it his, and puts the characters through a touth adventure and has alot of style. If he is confronted directly as an antagonist, he is pretty epic and cool in his behaviour.

Also, he changed and also overcame his chaotic nature. And is holding it back till now. I mean, does anyone realize, that he could turn the world into total chaos every waking moment, if he wanted to?

Discord! He's funny, he briefly succeeded in defeating the mane six, and he just does not give a damn.

i know she is not a "villian" but i really like how in "lesson zero" twilight looses herself to becoming the antagonist of the episode...

like i sad, not really a "villian", but it still is my fav of all of them... but im odd like that.

If this is allowed, then this is totally my choice as well. It came so unexpectedly, and yet it hid genuine insecurities on Twilight's part which I could relate to. Funny and a little creepy too.

Of all the villains in the show, only Starlight gave me the creeps. Her blend of magic and psychology was freakishly effective, not to mention the fact she can put up a fight against Twilight, who is literally magic incarnate, without first draining the entirety of Equestria of magic like Tirek did.

This is a copy & paste from another villain thread; many of you should know my admiration from Sombra. <3

Of course this post is pretty much restricted from the show as it was typed in 2014; so there won't be influence from any Sombra-related comic.

--

For me, it HAS to be King Sombra, and the reasons why are below, which I copied from another I made in a different thread.

1. Little to no given backstory: We're given enough to at least get a taste for him, but not too much to have an official mindset about his motivations or whatnot. It is for the most part up to us to fill the blanks (or the comics eventually). That mysterious angle about him just give him that dark edge for me.

2. Lack of an apparent ego: Don't get me wrong; I don't hate egotistical villains. I mean that's one reason why I love Chrysalis was that she had a colorful personality. However, that can also be their downfall. She had Twilight in her hooves, then just revealed herself to her. Had she not done that, she could've very been successful. Discord had this same issue when he basically painted a target on him at the end of "Return of Harmony." Sombra, in contract, smartly bides his time and waits. Yes, he wants the Crystal Empire, but he knows he can't do much with the shield magic going on. He knows being big and boastful will not do him any good.

3. Intelligence: Had it not been for Spike, he very well could've had Twilight as his permanent captive. It took her genius to figure out his hiding spot for the crystal heart, Spike's concern when Twilight wasn't answering, her magic & foresight to beat the door, and her outside the box thinking to get to the top of the tower in quick time. Had it been anyone other than Twilight (not counting alicorns) he could've came out the victor.

4. Presence & Threat: You didn't see him much, but you didn't need to. One of the reasons why Sauron works as a villain is that you don't see him all that much. His strength of presence comes in rumors and warnings. Remember in "Fellowship of the Ring" when Gandalf was talking about the black speech in Bag End? Similarly, Sombra's presence is felt from the instant the ponies walk into the barren wasteland of the frozen north. You hear the creepy wail and fear inches up your spine.

5. Fear: Just look at the crystal ponies themselves. Just the mere mention of thought of Sombra is enough to send these ponies into full-on PTSD. Just WHAT did he do to these ponies aside form slavery? How bad were their working conditions? What horrors did these ponies witness?

6. Power: It took both Celestia & Luna to banish Sombra; and he still managed to curse the empire to vanish. You know from Celestia's warnings and what we see his do that he is indeed a VERY powerful unicorn. What is his power was left unchecked? Would he have eventually tried to conquer Equestria proper?

7. Design: In a sense I can see why some didn't like his physical design, but to me it evokes the dark side of kingly power. Add in his magic and he's a terror.

Of course all of this is IMO. Again, I'm a big fan of Chrysalis as well, but I prefer Sombra simply because he is the better villain. Chrysalis might be the better character, if you will, but as a villain she didn't work out as well...on the show at least. Now the comics, on the other hand, she improved a great deal with her cunning and deception; not to mention her brutality. That puts her almost on level with Sombra for me.

Saying that; Sombra is best pony villain. <3

Before G4!Tirek came along, ^he^ was the best foil for Discord, IMO.

Love me some villains! But there's two things that make a villain for me! Number One, is presence! Something Sombra definitely has the lockdown on, but that's about all he has...

What's more important to me though...Is CAMP! Your just not a villain in my book without a good cackle & easily foiled plans! Discord was my view of genuine evil. *Poof!* I've turned you into a potatoe! Your entire life is invalid! Some are violent-evil and disregard life, but Discord just disregarded eeeeverything!

Chrysalis had both of those factors! She had a swarm at her command, and the right to be that overconfident! Can we all just agree she makes the best Mayadere?

Though I must look more into this Nightmare Rarity....

Comicbook Chrysalis is such a magnificently evil and smug villain. I've loved her unique design since I first saw it and the comics fleshed out her personality wonderfully. The fact that she's the arch nemesis of Twilight in the books makes her even better.

Sombra and Discord are pretty great as well. PathfinderCS summed up why Sombra is cool despite not doing much more than mumbling "crystals" a couple of times. The comics also made Sombra a tragic character, which is something I like a lot.

In fact, the comics do many things better than the show does. I recommend everyone to consider buying them (pretty sure they're available on iTunes)!
