spoiler Was Midnight Sparkle even a threat in LOE?

One thing I didn't like about this movie was how they advertised in the trailers that Twilight vs Midnight Sparkle was going to be a subplot... I hardly call it that. When Twilight feared Midnight Sparkle could come out, we aren't even sure if it is her own mind or Midnight Sparkle really attempting to return.

it was her own mind. midnight sparkle is not "an another person/character" it SciTwi.

and in the end, when they were trying to defeat Gloriosa it's all come clear. maybe you should watch it again or read the book))

I meant as in Midnight Sparkle(her dark half) not being vanquished or Twilight's own insecurities.

it was all in her head. and in the end of the movie she finally realized it and with a little help from her friends was able to defeat it.

p.s. in prologue we see, that she was afraid of it.. and all the time through the end, she was all doom & gloom, but in time she overcome it. i don't think we'll see midnight twi again in the next movie.

I think it was the personification of her internal struggle - it was a threat to some extent, but no more than her having to battle her own demons.

I loved this side part of the story.

yep. that's what i was trying to say. thanks! Edited by Ethan Tran

I am trying to ask if Midnight Sparkle re-emerging was a threat. Of course its just Twilight's mind... Much like how Luna's mind contains(ed) Nightmare Moon. It would have been awful to see both Gloriosa and Midnight Sparkle causing more mayhem.

Oh! Okay - well I think if she did come to pass and teamed up with Gloriosa, that might have been too hard for the others to overcome. The only victory in Friendship Games was Twilight finding peace within herself.

I don't think Midnight would team up with Gloriosa though. Gloriosa would see her as a threat to the Everfree campsite and try to eliminate her.

IMO that 'subplot' was handled extremely poorly. It just amounted to Twilight angsting over Midnight, Sunset telling her not to worry and when push came to shove the threat was neutralized before it ever manifested. It would have been better if the angsting had done something and Midnight had actually returned for a bit, but as it stands she was no threat at all.

Midnight Sparkle and Twilight are the same character, so the former exists within the latter's mind as a means of torment. She doesn't exist in the physical sense but is rather a manifestation of fear because Twilight is afraid of becoming her once again. At least, that's how I view it.

If anything, I think that it granted too much legitimacy to her fears. It should have been more about Twilight needing to get over her self-doubt and anxiety, or at least learning to live with it and overcome it. I wasn't really compelled by the magical elements of the film; it would have been a lot more satisfying if it were a lot more about how Twilight's demons were affecting her, compared to just being about her needing to embrace her magical powers.

If you look closely you see that Midnight was almost able to take control over Sci's body more than once.

But I still do not think, that she was a real threat for anyone other than Sci.

She was only Sci's story arc, what makes sense when you consider that the girl was never in contact with magic before the games and is a senitive person. So of course it would bother her a lot and she needed to learn how to control it.

But I also guess that they did this arc primarily because a lot of people always wanted it with Sunset. xD

For me Twilight VS her inner Midnight was one of the movie's highlights. I loved the subplot and it also showed how much of an impact the magic has on those that corrupted them and leaves me wondering if Sunset and Gloriosa experience(d) the same.

I think we established it was her own mind and self doubt as the issue.

The real question is why?

I have a sneaky suspicion that we may end up with a Dark Phoenix arc one fine day. This would lay the groundwork for that.

That and we needed a lesson about believing in yourself or..something educational;)
