music How often do you listen to music unbefitting your current emotion?

I am listening to this

And I am not sad, even though it is sad, and I am refusing to get sad from it, as sadness is counter-productive.

So I'm wondering how often do others listen to music and are not in the same mood?  Like ever listen to SoaD or Three Days Grace without being hyper moody angry or angsty?

What sort of songs do you listen to that are unbefitting?

I listen to a few pretty mellow songs or ones with pretty melancholy or very emotional lyrics just about whenever. I never really listen to songs based on my mood. Other than i guess listening to comedy bands when i fancy laughing a bit :D

This is the kinda thing i mean :P

I listen to these guys no matter what mood i'm in cuz i love them so!

That's a thing that happens?!!?

Hah! Usually when I'm listening to music it almost forcibly rewrites my emotion to fit the song!

That's the thing about songs is how its open to interpretation to whoever hears it, your Into the Ocean song struck me as more upbeat and groovy. Like how there's so many "party" songs these days with such up-tempo beats to them its hard not to get your blood rushing to them. That's sort of why I don't listen to anything particularly angry & yelly like Heavy Metal, because I'm quite certain I'd be foaming at the mouth in minutes, lol.

That's one theory I've heard, that music makes your heart beat to its rhythm. And, perhaps sometimes we seek to listen to a sad song to simulate the feeling without being there to begin with. An artificial emotion, so to speak.

Beatings & Salivations Everybeing!   Creativity is something blatantly important to me as is no doubt evidenced by the 28 OCs I have posted here of the some forty plus I have, they're linked altogether at the bottom of my About Me page in my Profile & I would deeply cherish anything you wish to say about them! Among which of those I am proudest most of is my Draconequusona, His/My Ask Thread  and my Hydra, Gallimaufry or "Mauf" and their own Ask Thread!  Either way, sufficed to say, I am quite confident I have more OCs than you! Crazier to! Do You have a tatzelpony?! No, I rather think you don't! Hew-Hew-hew!

oh man, try their song 'Hate Me'. That's a song I listen to often to remind me of the sadness so I am greatful for the gladness. Another one is Johnny Cash's rendition of 'Hurt'.

Also I listen to really melodic songs like Sogreatandpowerful. It reminds me of going to Bronycon and being truly happy for once in my life lol

I think PinkiePieSwear is at a similar level

Its more like the brainwaves try matching it, heartrate could be effected but at many of the beats in music we would die if our heart suddenly worked that fast or slow, think of Jazz Opera Power Metal or Speedcore.

Pretty much all the time? I don't listen to music based on emotion, I just listen to whatever I like listening to. Whether that be sad or happy. If I'm in a negative mood why would I listen to sad music, or happy music? Both are counterproductive: sad only intensifies itself and happy does the same in wishing I was happy. If I listen to something I like, I will become happy when sad.

A lot. I have a lot of angsty emo music in my many playlists, but I hardly ever feel that way. That doesn't stop me from singing along badly and loudly though. I do listen to more pumped up music to get myself in the mood for competitions and the like, though.

i like to mix my music up a lot and sometimes something like this will end up being played after a song like smile smile smile yet i will still remain in a very cheerful mood
^-^
be warned! this is an extremely dark song and if you speak German i really suggest not listening to it

Pretty much all the time. Hatebreed, King 810, Slipknot, Suicide Silence, Machine Head are all very angry sounding bands, but I'm rarely angry when I listen to them. I don't really listen to music when I'm angry. Same w/ sad & angsty music. Cold, Evanescence, Three Days Grace, Smile Empty Soul, I'm not all that sad when I hear them, and if I was I wouldn't be up for listening.

Being a huge fan of aggro-tech and I listen to it a lot, this tends to be a lot of music that might not match my current mood at all, though this music does a good job at matching my moods too. Some of the things are incredibly dark, having themes of death, suicide, and more things that are very depressing topics. I still listen to it regardless of my current emotions because I love the music.

  • 4 years later...

Listening to depressing music while depressed is unbeneficial for me because it makes me feel even more depressed, yet I do it anyways sometimes.

Not everything I listen to matches my mood at the time. I could be sad listening to happy songs or happy listening to angry sort of music.

I do the same thing sometimes, usually that happens when I’m getting story ideas
