No wonder that one fanart I saw of Pinkie cosplaying as Gambit existed. It was in response to her new magic in the movie that revolves around a similar concept to what he can do. Pinkie has been known to cause comedic explosions throughout the seasons, so I see this new magic as an extension of that.

I don't think it's kinetic energy. The stuff she threw seemed to move normally, it just blew up at the end. Maybe thermal energy, given the glowing? Chemical energy?

Also, why didn't it work on the nails? Does it have to be festive? Would multi-colored nails have worked? 

These are the big questions, vital to the progress of humankind.

was initially thinking of Jubilee at first showing (I originally thought it had more of a firework type of effect) and sort of think it's a mix of gambit and jubilee's abilities.

I think its supposed to be that she's just SO full of energy that she can fill things she touches (Or in this case, sweets) with energy too and cause them to explode.
