So, place your bets... how much starlight do you think we'll have in S7?

So, lets get some theorizing and discussion here: How much starlight glimmer do you think we'll get in S7 after the S6 finale and S6?

Do you expect her to be made an official mane seventh, be a secondary character, supporting character, minor character, shunted off into oblivion, ect?

Definitely not the last option my good sir  ^_^. Let's do some simple math. A quick review of season 6 shows that Starlight appeared in the following episodes:

  • The Crystalling Part 1 & 2
  • No Second Prances
  • A Hearth's Warming Tale
  • Brief non-speaking appearance in Spice up Your Life
  • Minor role in The Times they are a Changeling
  • Every little thing she does
  • To where and Back again Part 1 & 2

In total, Glimmy made an appearance in 9 out of 26 episodes (a little over 1/3). I don't know if she will be bumped up to mane status, but she definitely deserves it after her performance in the finale . I really want her to become part of the mane 7, but won't mind if she is still relegated to secondary status. Hopefully we'll see her a lot more next season (i'm hoping for appearances in at least 1/2 of the episodes next season :)).

About the same. Possibly less focus in the premiere and finale now that she's more established and developed after joining the cast, kind of like how they cooled off on Cadence and Shining after the season 2 finale and season 3 premiere.

And I see her as being on the same level as Spike and the CMC. Not as frequently reappearing as the mane six, but will still show up from time to time and will have her own episodes.

This seems about right to me. I just hope she doesn't continue to hover around Twilight so much.

I've always assumed that she was the main driver of season 6, and that the material with her will go WAY down after season 6.

however, I like her, and would be fine if we got more of her.

that said, the best solution to the character would be for her to finish a learning arc with twilight, and then to be sent out on her own, just like twilight was sent out from Celestia.  it would bring finality, and closure to the arc, and still leave open the possibility for seeing her in the future, without the high level of attention that current starlight demands.

I feel that predictions could be radically altered after the finale, since I'm expecting to see her play a major role in it to close out the season.

And Trixie's guaranteed to appear with her at least once. I'm stoked.

Given how much of a relationship the writers have given to the Starlight and Trixie friendship, I can definitely see her coming back for season seven.

This is actually a tough question. So far, she's been set to become a Mane 7, but it could also go like Twilight, sent off on a journey, or back to lead her own village after making sure she's learned the errors of her ways.

Sunset has been basically ascended to Mane 7 status and many think of Starlight as her pony counterpart. That and Chrysalis swearing revenge on Starlight specifically make me think she will need to stay with the others, and... maybe Hasbro would decide then, but assuming Mane 7 by default.

Going to be an outlier here, I fully expect her to become the new seventh member and for S7 to revolve around her journey into becoming an EOH as an official mane seventh. Not something I WANT, but I do expect it.

Why? She had been barely allowed to interact with other characters even in her own episodes and in-between them she almost dissapears despite living in the castle. It is not that the showrunners were easing us into her when otherwise she had such a prominent role in the season. Not only with many episodes with her as the main star but in both the premier and the finale. It seems her character development and being Twilight's student was this seasons main story-arc, it does not mean this will be the case in the future. Discord called their team a team of secondary characters and she was not really more prominent than the rest of team for the most of the episode, she was their Twilight not some mane character with the rest as her sidekicks. She was also set up for some kind of leadership role that may last beyond the finale and she is not leading the mane 6 for sure.

She does not really offer anything new to mane 6 either in terms of personality or charcater seeing even. And the showrunners must know she is not exactly a fan-favorite by now and I can't believe her merchandise would sell great either. Just because Sunset became a main character it does not mean this is inevitable.

I think she will be shown about as much as Discord next season.

She's an insecure, self-depecrating, socially inept pony hidden behind a confident, deadpan snarker shell with a talent for magic. I don't think we have another character like this... And even the magic thing, Twilight is more of an analyst whereas Starlight keeps on creating new spells.

However, she hasn't truly bonded with the Mane 6, minus Twilight. If she is to become a Mane 7, that's something she will NEED - dedicated episodes with the rest, instead of group or off-screen lessons. Without this, my eyebrow would go on an adventure like Applejack's.

Ultimately, her place is with other ponies. Not the mane 6. The 6 of them have a bond that really would make her feel like a third wheel. She'll show up, but nowhere near as often, and she won't be given anywhere near as much importance.

She'll be a secondary character, like Discord, Spike and the CMC. She'll have a few episodes to herself which, if they're anything like this season will probably be some of the best, and she'll show up and do some supporting role stuff in some other episodes.

Minus the Premiere and the finale, she didn't seem like a main character this season, she's not part of the "Mane 7". She's good friends with Twilight now, and her student. And she does have some friendship with the other 5 now, but she's not super close to any of them but Twilight.

She'll probably won't be as important as she was this season, but she'll appear in some episodes and have another arc developing her. I'm expecting season seven to be her graduation season, now that she's comfortable with being a leader again I want some episodes developing that, and in the end she'll be ready to leave and live her life. As much as I like her I think having her character arc completed would be much more satisfactory than forcing her to stay, and I don't think her destiny is to be with the mane 6. I'd like her to return to the village, or go with Trixie, or Sunburst, or just anywhere life takes her. That'd actually make for a pretty touching episode.

She could also stick around for at least one more season though, that threat in the finale of the season will definitely come into play later. If there's a season 8 perhaps that will happen after she leaves, who knows.

I think they were trying to recapture a "S1 twilight" feel for her with her "Socially inept but super good at magic", much like EQG twilight is vastly different from pony twilight; I don't think they succeeded very well, but I think they were going for filling the niche of the void that twilight Left when she transitioned after S3 into a different personality. So I think there's a spot they're trying to fill in the group.

Plus, with Chrysalis's entire "Swearing revenge on starlight, forget everyone else" they're obviously setting up a future arc with chrysalis returning like Starlight returning after the S5 premier, which SCREAMS starlight being promoted to more importance to me.

While I WANT to believe that, I've seen little hard evidence to back it up, only anecdotal. I've seen alot of glimmer fans just like glimmer haters.

I hope it's just as much as this season, if not more!

As much as I love Glim-Glam and hope she continues to be a big character, I kinda don't want her to join up with the mane six. I mean, she kinda is already, but I don't really want the official title for her. I want the original mane 6 to always be the original. No additions or subtractions. They might have other friends, but they're the best of friends and it'll always be just them to me.

Of course there are pararells between the two and all but I can not see her being a replacement which is different. In fact her lacking unique qualities hinders her and I have not witnessesd much nostalgia from the writers for the socialy akward Twilight. Starlight also had such development this season she is no longer that truly either.

I think you could equaly say that there is no more than anecdotal evidence of Starlight being included either. Therefore maybe you should take the position that gives you least amount of anxiety as the starting assumption :)
