Sunset Shimmer represents embracing adulthood and responsibility

I was re-watching that one scene of the battle of the bands, the Sirens vs. the mane six including Sunset Shimmer and I realized something. The mane six gaining pony ears and tails represents puberty, changes coming with the body, the powers the seven of them gaining were also part of the change and also represent puberty. The entirety of the Equestria Girls is about learning lessons and changing, aka going through puberty and growing up.

What do I mean about Sunset Shimmer representing embracing adulthood? The mane six tussle with the Sirens in musical combat they didn't have enough punch to take them out and was throw down when Adagio had a second wind, then the mic fell to Sunset's feet, Twilight told her that they need her. Sunset Shimmer would be that extra punch, the catalyst that was needed to give the mane six a boost. Remember Sunset Shimmer is mostly a support type character as in her magic boosts the strengths of others as well as offers a healing effect, in many cases Sunset Shimmer had the magic that could turn the mane six into fully capable adults that have found their passion and also makes them strong enough to take responsibility.

Puberty is not a single stage change, it goes through several stages as well, so each time the mane six were changing they got a different appearance which represents each stage they were taking into adulthood. Sunset Shimmer was the one that were to teach them how to be adults and to find their true passion, this is also shown when Sunset Shimmer encourages the mane six to embrace their magic when they gain it on the Everfree movie.

I suppose this is a pretty good allegory for little girls that watch the show.

An interesting perspective and one that not even I would've noticed. It does make sense seeing as Sunset is now the resident magical expert so she understands it better than anyone else. She guides her friends towards accepting that their lives are no longer what they used to be, and to embrace the changes they go through.
