Are there any Psychological horror fans here? and by Psychological Horror I don't mean the gorefest slashers like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Halloween type of horror films. I mean films that make you think, that shock you psychologically instead of sickeningly.

I am one, and some of my favorites are:

Jacob's Ladder, Silent Hill, Rosemary's Baby, The Shining, The Skeleton Key just to name a few.

Gosh yes.  I'm actually surprised someone else likes such a thing as well.  It's often too specific of a 'genre', haha.  I love movies, video games and novel/stories of this specific type.

As far as films go, some that I've personally enjoyed are...

The Shining/Carrie, Silence of the Lambs, The Exorcist, Psycho, Seven, Jacob's ladder, I also share a mutual liking for Rosemary's baby (Incredible movie).  That's pretty much all I can come up with right now.  While I can't say that I've cared too much for the Silent Hill as a movie, I absolute love it as a game.  One of my favorites, in fact.

@@AmarisNsane,

I know, but I literally cannot stomach slasher/gorefest movies. I got half way through Jason X and had to turn it off. Same with some of the worst b grades like Talisman.

not entirely sure if they'd be classified as Psychological horror or not but some of the mor revenge theemd ones like Scarecrow and Tamara.

The Shining and Psycho are 2 of my favourites also, and the silince of the lambs series (as well as the tv series Hannibal) are all great. There are good bloody and jumpscary movies out there, but psychological ones are in a different class imo

Psychological horror>Gore

From recent releases I fell in love with The Babadook movie. It lacks typical horror cliches and while being very creepy it also carries a much deeper message if somebody pays attention to it. The "monster" itself (if I can call it by that name) is very simple and minimalistic yet made me shiver during its few appearances. And I could really feel main character's slow drift towards madness while watching it. Would recommend to anyone.

Only thing I didn't really like about it is the kid. Problem is... it is a kid, kids tend to behave like this one when facing that kind of situations so... it's hardly a flaw.
