spoiler Was Thorax's cocoon phase a bit too quick?

I kind of feel like they did a rush job on making Thorax go through his final stage of "metamorphosis" like a caterpillar to cocoon to the last stage of a butterfly he couldn't take some time being in a cocoon before becoming his final form? I suppose the cocoon is just a brief stage then. But it's kind of bothersome.

I don't think his was, since he did have the head start at the Crystal Empire and his wings got all sparkly. The rest of the changelings though, now that was a tad too fast. I guess it had to be fast like that but I just find it odd that an entire hive of changelings could be reformed instantly like that because of one other changeling. thorax must have had like, all the love, ready to go.

I actually agree that he dose feel rushed in terms of writing and development I was hoaping to see him in a friendship problem episode or something similar to it before the season finally, but then we had it happen and well I have to admit it dose kind of disappoint the mystery of the changelings so your not the only one feeling it was rushed.

Thorax was already undergoing a transformation. His wings had become crystallized and he himself said that he hadn't fed off the love of anyone since meeting Spike. So when he became his current form, it makes sense that it happened quickly as the transformation had already begun. The other Changelings are a different story. They changed way too quickly considering they only decided to release their love mere seconds earlier after Thorax blasted Chrysalis into her throne. I attribute this to the time constraint. Since they only had twenty-two minutes to do this, they had to make the transition go through as quickly as possible.

Yeah for me too it felt a bit rushed...

The cocoon stay on screen for very few seconds and it seems a bit unatural that the transformation between two relatively different form took only 5 seconds. In addition I think a bit of the hate for this new form of the changelings come from the fact that the revelation was a little bit quick. If the cocoon was in the backround for one minute and if the show had allowed spectators to wonder about the new design for a little more time, the revelation of the new changelings would have been way more powerful and maybe more accepted than the Old design > Cocoon > New design in 5 seconds flat like in the episode.

Would you want to spend a say 2 minute scene with the characters just going "WHAT IS THIS COCCOON THING!!?!?!?!!" Is that really something that should be done when you only have 44 minutes to tell your story?

Don't be silly :P

There are other ways to do this sort of thing than going "WHAT IS THIS COCCOON THING !???" for 2 minutes.

It would have been better, in my humble opinion, if the story was written like this :

- Thorax share love, the throne is destroy and Chrysalis defeated.

- Thorax go in cocoon mode

- The changelings look at each others, confused, and gather around the cocoon as the castle collapsed

- The Mane 6 and all the others characters are liberated, we see the cocoon in the backround

- Starlight confront Chrysalis

- Chrysalis escape, leaving her kingdom behind since all of her subjects are too absorbed by the cocoon to even listen to her

- As she escape, Thorax leave his cocoon. Big reveal of the new design of Thorax. In addition, it would have been a cool parallel I think between the queen who flee the kingdom and the new leader who emerges at the same time.

- Starlight says "This is what happened when you share love and don't just try to steal it"

- The Changelings undergo the transformation and go in cocoon mode.

- Celestia does her speech and ask everyone to leave the kingdom for now, saying she would return to see Thorax when the other changelings would emerge at their turns. Everyone leave.

- The scene in Starlight's village.

- The show return quickly at the Changeling hive and we saw a couple of changelings coming out of their cocoons for the reveal of how they look now.

The pacing would have been... much better (?)

But it's juste my silly point of view ^^

It would have been interesting if the episode ended in a sort of cliffhanger with them in cocoons, and the reveal would be in the S7 opener.

That's not as much of a cliffhanger that it would be so bad if S7 didn't happen; their designs could still be revealed through other media.

But I imagine Hasbro wanted the new design out there ASAP to build interest for a new toy line...
