rainbow rocks RR: Sunset Shimmer never reformed.

This may have been touched upon but I've never seen it around, with the exception of obscure fan fictions. I love Sunset as a heroine, it is a reformation that makes sense, and Sunset in my opinion is the series's best character who isn't a pony anymore. I know Alternate Universes get abused on threads. But I feel for RR, it is something based on logic and fact.

Sunset was never sure if people could forgive her and wish to be her friend. So I think based on her insecure emotions alone, it could have been possible for Adagio to hoodwink Sunset. Get Sunset on the Dazzlings's side. I'm not gonna get into illogical things, such as Sunset falling to the point where she becomes a siren, abandoning her pony form, signifying no redemption at all.

You think it would have been wise for Adagio to reach her hand out to Sunset? Offering her the power she failed to get? Aria and Sonata obviously aren't drones for Adagio, they have free will. So what becomes of Sunset if she joined the siren ranks? Is Sunset free or not?

Adagio was aware of what Sunset transformed into in the first movie despite not actually seeing it for herself. She also knew that she attempted to control the entire student body and use them for her own benefit. Those factors might have her view Sunset as a threat to her dominion. Villains don't like it when other villains or heroes for that matter have a similar power to their own. Adagio could get rid of Sunset to prevent her from assuming control if she were to end up falling down that path had she allowed her emotions to consume her thoughts.

Then again, Adagio could see Sunset as a potential ally and one who could be used to her advantage. Who knows, she might even see her as a kindred spirit equal to herself compared with her sisters.

One thing we know, had this happened, Friendship Games would have been a different movie. I was never sure if just 'anyone" could use those pendants. As if only sirens could use them.

It seemed like the pendants were only meant for their use, but then the only time someone thought about it was when Sunset tried to reach for the one around Adagio's neck. A shame that idea was never used again.

Be funny if Adagio would grow to favor Sunset if that relationship went far/ Adagio clearly views Aria and Sonata as incompetents, but they're her race, so she cooperates and leads them. Imagine Sunset outshining Aria and Sonata? Adagio would get more done.

Like I said, Adagio would view Sunset as being a threat to her because she would be seen as just as competent. Of course, Adagio knows how to use her words well and can encourage Sunset into being more reasonable. Aria and Sonata would either have to accept Sunset being part of the group or risk being alienated.

How would Sunset be? Thinking she made friends? Adagio's slave? Or just power obsessed?

She would assume that became obsessed with power. Becoming Adagio's friend would take a while as Sunset was honeyed over with harsh words that served to undermine her ability of being able to move on from the past. She wouldn't become a slave as she would be too smart to fall into that category.

Since second chances only apply to Discord... I doubt Sunset would  have gotten another chance to reform. Twilight would just tell Celestia that your old student is gone, and that would have been awful for Celestia to hear.

And Equestria would've lost one of its brightest unicorns all because the temptation towards power was too much for her to resist.

I'm happy Sunset took the heroine path. But I figure alternate universe talks always keep he community buzzing.

The same can be said about all of the characters. Each of them could have taken an alternate path in life and not become the person we've come to know them as.

I can imagine an alternate version of that locker hall scene. Sunset Shimmer anxious and letting everything from the sirens get to her. Adagio offers her a chance at getting that power she always wanted. So she takes out a small box, opens it to reveal a 4th red gem necklace. Adagio smiling in sadistic joy.

Had that truly happened, Sunset would have been lost forever and no amount of friendship could have saved her. Words do have a way of being more powerful than actual power.

I mean hey it would force Celestia and Luna to get off their thrones and do actual work right?  ^_^

Something the fans would appreciate given their recent track record.

The sirens would be getting a dam good 4th vocalist though(trying to make this a little positive) Sunset has heavenly vocal cords.

Ones that can easily rival or even exceed what Adagio is capable of.

Who's to say that they wouldn't try to manipulate her in the future? If they were to return, they might try to turn Sunset against the others although the chances of that succeeding are incredibly slim at this point... Unless a human version of Sunset were to suddenly appear out of nowhere.

The only thing I would be confused over, if sirens are going to naturally accept a pony as an ally.

Sonata would most likely accept given her ditzy personality, yet Adagio would need a ton of convincing given how she was deemed the main antagonist amongst the Dazzlings. Aria is a mixed bag as she gravitates towards either direction.

I just figured they viewed non-sirens as "food". Sonata I see being the first one to accept Sunset.

The reverse would also be true. If the Dazzlings were to be reformed, Sonata would be the one most likely to go with that. Adagio might be beyond reformation while Aria is again a mixed bag.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm not sure, really. Both Sunset and Adagio wanted power, so neither would trust the other and only seek to undermine their efforts. Ultimately, their alliance would unravel and they would be at each other's throats.

In a more meta sense, I'm glad Sunset was actually reformed. As a villain, she was a horrible character because she was a complete cardboard cutout. She'd never have managed to win against Adagio, who was far better as a villain than Sunset could ever hope to be.
