How to write better female pony charcters in fanfiction

I can't seem to write good female pony charcters. Please help me. Or just General advice on writing better female charcters. Not just pony one's.

I would just try and make a good character who just so happens to be female, not a good female character.  But if you really want to pull off the latter (especially for a story were societal exceptions are a theme), I'd check this out.
