spoiler Does timber kinda..bother anyone else?

So, i've done a topic about what people dislike about eqg4..but heres a thing i wanna ask.

Is anyone else bothered by Timber as a character? No, not because hes a love interest, but because he's..possibly older then twilight, yes, it's fine to date older people, but the fact is eqg twilight is probably around 16 or 17 years old. now since we don't know there worlds ..you know, age stuff. this could potentially be a little..sketchy, not to mention how he's a camp councilor, which mind you you're basically hammered with the fact that you shouldn't date campers.

now theres no evidence that he is an adult, because no one ever says their ages. So for all we know Timber could be 18-26, or something..I have nothing against MLP love interests. I don't like them, but eh, not my cup of tea. tho the forcefeeding of flash needs to be toned down a bit, he improved, but thats another topic for another time.

Also, timber's..eyebrows annoy me, just for the fact that he has green hair and brown eyebrows.

Not really, nothing about his attraction and dating Twilight is portrayed as creepy in the movie, so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's younger, and that the age you need to be to be a camp councilor in the EQG world is lower, and there might be different standards about councilor's dating campers.

i mean true; i do try to take things with a grain of salt since we don't know the age of rules of their world, but still sometimes when you think about things it can seem a bit off.

True, if you apply the rules of our world, it seems a bit strange and maybe creepy. The movie also doesn't explicitly state that it works differently in it's world, so it's not like you don't have a reason to think like this. It's just a matter of perspective, Timber seems like a pretty good guy and the movie doesn't point out anything wrong with their relationship, so I'll play along with the movie here.

On another note, I never actually noticed his eyebrows before, but now that I do...Yeah, that on the other hand is just strange. :awuh:

Well when you think about Cadence being a dean and Shining being a student you might think theres a larger age gap there lol. They probably got interested when he was still in school.

But it probably just plays into people's fantasies, people fantasize about teachers all the time. Doesn't mean anything sexual is implied.

*(except with cadence shining lol, if flurry heart becomes their kid in eqg)

Well I was 18 when I was a senior in high school so technically she's legal in that case. And it also depends on the laws in the place where they live, so if she was 16 than it might not matter. But he could be 21. I had a counselor when I went to Peru who was 22 and she started when she was 21.

But anyway...

After Timber's "Gaia Everfree! EvErFrEe! EVERFREEEEEEEEE!!!!! I forgot all about that. I couldn't stop laughing after that XD

Also remember that Timber is a 'Camp Counselor' not because he was hired, but because he and his older sister Gloriosa both inherited their positions and the campground itself from their parents, grandparents, etc. Depending on how much laws match between worlds, Gloriosa only has to be 18 to be legally allowed to 'own' the campground, and Timber will be younger than that.

to be honest, the eyebrow thing is the thing that really annoys me the most. XD I couldn't really care if they date, but his eyebrows..atleast flash has the right colour scheme XD

honestly in this post i went a bit..into the relationship, my main problem honestly is his design. his eyebrows just..piss me off, due to the colour, unless he has brown and green hair. XD

I'm not really bothered by Timber because he's not as old as you think he is. We know that he and Gloriosa inherited the camp from their parents when Gloriosa mentioned some donors were good friends of their parents indicating they passed away long before the events of the movie. Because of that, Timber wasn't hired to be a camp councilor but rather it's part of the family business that goes back a few generations.

I believe the chapter book reveals his age although I've yet to read it myself, but if I were to take a guess at how old Timber really is, I'd say he were roughly nineteen years old with Gloriosa being a few years older than him.

true, but even then it i kinda dodgy to date the campers..one thing i guess that bothered me is when Twilght tripped on the docks and he caught her, and sprouted a one liner..

instead of checking if shes injured.

The one-liner was very cringe-worthy and every time I watch that scene, I just have to slap my forehead.

I honestly think Sci-Twi's infatuation with Timber and the way they interact with each other is far better than pony Twilight and Flash were. Maybe it's because I don't have any particular ships with Sci-Twi that I don't mind this development, but Timber didn't really bother me in the slightest. Yeah, he's a dork, but not in a bad way.

Timber Spruce did bother me in plenty of ways. Especially because of his relationship with Sci-Twi (as with the romantic subplots in most movies, it feels forced and adds nothing to the overall story, but then there's also the fact that the guy runs the camp and I still believe he could be any number of years older than Twilight, the so-called "chemistry" between Sci-Twi and Timber Spruce feels forced most of the time (thanks to Timber's cringy one-liners mainly) and, now that I think about it, Timber and Sci-Twi didn't even really have that much in common (Timber seemed like a very confident and outgoing guy, meanwhile Sci-Twi was struggling with her alter ego, socially awkward and is still pretty nervous)) Looking back, he also seems a bit poorly designed...

Since most of my little rant was about Timber being yet another in what seems like a production line of manufactured, forced romantic interests for Twilight, I'll just say this: Hasbro, DHX, Writing Staff, the next time you guys think of giving Sci-Twi or Twilight Sparkle another romantic interest, can you please try to put more thought into it next time, and make it not seem creepy and/or forced... I don't think I'll continue watching Equestria Girls or giving the franchise any money through DVD purchases if you don't improve on this, seeing as you think it is a requirement in these 'movies' anyway.

Shining wasn't a student, he was called in because he was part of the Friendship Games in the past. Cinch was using him as a tool to talk Twilight into participating because her older brother did when he was in school.

Timber sucks!

(Legit logged in just to say that. I mean, my gosh, we went from Brad to...a much more snobby Brad...greaaaaat.)

But in all fairness, I do have mixed feelings on the character, I agree with those heavily who say it feels "forced" into the show...

But there's a reason for that...

A lot of people that saw the show and fell in love with it, loved that it was different than all the other animated shows

currently on air. No dumbed down writing, plenty of clever humour, and lack of the cliche' "teen drama."

We had 6 female leads who weren't "boy obsessed" had real legitimate personalities rather than cookie cutter

sitcom/drama fakey ones, and the situations they faced were well written, and for the most part, highly creative!

I think that's why so many people were turned off when Equestria Girls one came out. It just felt like another "high school musical"

and played to the cliche tropes that have weighed down so much of the media in the last 20 years.

Could it have been the fandom perhaps that stirred it? That's actually a pretty debated question that I don't really know the answer to.

Writers and artists in general go through a "give the people what they want" phase every once in a while, and two big communities in the fandom

at the time, were anthro artists, and shippers. So that could have possibly "green lit" them to do what they did. (Or perhaps EQG was just a parody of bad fan-fiction.)

I won't say there's anything wrong with anthro artists and shippers, because I think we're all guilty of enjoying one or the other in some way shape or form. I do believe some people go way too far with it, to the point where it gets annoying and unhealthy. (It's just a show for goodness sake!)

BUT...

The biggest mistake with that concept however, is that pandering to audiences generally leads to lackluster production. It's like a Michael Bay movie, 10 percent decent writing, 90 percent fan service, and for those who loved the show from the beginning, this often kills it for those who liked it purely for the differences mentioned earlier. Fan service is not a bad thing, as long as it's subtle, or has its place. The 100th episode? sure! that's a celebration of the history of the show, and for one episode out of many to have that feel, fine...it's excusable, and played for laughs and tribute. But when they start relying on pop culture, and "modern relevance" (mlp should never have smartphones or duckfaces in it in my opinion, it just doesn't suit it) and if they throw in forced relationships and cheesy writing, it waters down the show's brilliance significantly.

In short, Timber (just like Brad) feels stereotypical, unnecessary, and out-of-place. They didn't need the romantic aspect in my opinion. It just feels...wrong. I liked Legends of Everfree a whole lot, but that "love story" (if you can call it that, considering how much of a self absorbed jerk he was imo) could have been left out.

I know, just saying how long does it take to be a dean? She would probably be in her late twenties at the youngest, and Shining doesn't look late 20s. Granted their ages are unknown.

Does it really matter if she's 17 and Timber is 19? 2 years is a really small age difference

to be fair i made tthis post before everyone went "no he's like late teens." o3o

honestly, i 100% agree with you, i'm fine with people likin timber-twilight but some people do have to agree that a lot of the male characters are rather unliked. A lot of my friends really dislike spike, even tho he's been around for what..4 years?

i kinda wish the males of the show had more writing, timber bothered me from a design and the damn one liners.. Most of the male characters are cut in paste. Spike and shning have slightly more development, but can still be a bit eh.
