Twilight Sparkle - Sorcerer

- wide set of offensive and supportive spells

- high MP

- high resistance to magical attacks

Sunset Shimmer - Sorcerer

- focuses on offensive spells

- Special: Demon form - can turn herself into a demon for a short amount of time to boost overall performance.

Rainbow Dash - Warrior-Ninja

- gets turn faster

- fast (harder to dodge) attacks

- higher chance to dodge attacks

smoke cloud bombs (decreasing enemy accuracy / increasing critical chance / dealing lighting damage over time / etc. )

- elemental attacks

Applejack - Warrior-Berserker

- high HP

- high physical power

- high physical defense

- low MP

- low magical power

- low magical resistance

- lack of elemental abilities

* - why she has MP/ magic power at all? 'magic' doesn't necessarily mean spells. Ground pound-like skill or *yeehaws* could use MP, for example.

Also - magic of friendship, magic from elements of harmony ~ she has some magic in herself.

Pinkie Pie - ???-Bard

- throwing objects to deal various kinds of damage (physical/elemental)

- using party canon to deal various kinds of damage (physical/elemental/+/- AoE)

- party-buffing / enemy-debuffing singing abilities

Rarity - I don't know what would fit there best... let's go with Sorcerer-like thingie

- uses/summons gems to deal physical/magical/elemental damage +/- AoE (rain of projectiles)

- uses/summons gems to protect party (big target-able gems, that blocks the way etc.)

Fluttershy - Animal Trainer-Druid

- low physical power

- calling animals to deal damage / protect/buff party

- healing abilities

Animal summoning and monster taming and medic Fluttershy (extremely weak to aoe effects)

RD weather and speed and sneakyness (immobility type debuffs and ailments and sealings, and enemies made out of very sturdy stuff that dash cannot penetrate and accidentally wastes her time in approaching) can also be a spy and try recruiting enemies but then get swayed in turn through counter-spying misinformation

Pinkie, volcanoes, rock slides, explosions, converting human enemies, party buffer(such as faster cooldowns) and enemy debuffer(demoralizer and confusion causing) and anti-sealer. Weak to manipulation and trying to do too much (overextending). Has a keen eye, is good for scouting and determining enemy type. A good if easily angered tactician. With dash can be a good spy and small battle assault duo.

Sunset, psychic abilities and direct magical attacks such as status ailments, mp damage, hp/mp drain, and scenario specific offense spells. Anti-singular opponent. Versatile, but still performs below average when multiple enemies are around, especially if time is of the essence. Easily gets distracted. Has some safety effects to play hit and run but not as effective as dash at it with larger groups, again. Can still be of some use in parties against hordes of weak enemies. Above average strategy but it has lower priority so may get distracted.

Rarity, definitely extreme party buffing and negation of enemy actions, anti-physical-type interruptions/upsets, and some close quarter combat self-defense. Is bested through hoards of weak ranged enemies(can delay it through a distraction), and from having lack of much team versatility and stuff to do, wasted turns. Can assume different roles but takes turns to set up the appropriate outfit, which helps balance her against the versatility and wasted turns. Overall has low damage though so in a battle where time is of the essence will fail.

AJ, a tank/warrior/paladin and some earthquakes or plant geomancy. Can detain enemies, similar to farm animals, so enemy sealing probably. Would be useful against things that cannot die or too impractical to try killing(or defeating). Is bested by weather and ranged attacks in conjunction and by stronger debuffs and ailments. Basically immune to herself being sealed or manipulated.

Twilight, diverse and powerful spells, team oriented. Burst abilities (some charge up time, but more powerful). Slow turn priority. But also would have a fair amount of counter-spells. Is bested by multiple very fast close quarter combat opponents and a diverse organized enemy group with poor team functionality or if the diverse group caused an ambush.

Celestia, passive party buffs, increased party exp gain and such, party unlocks abilities faster (even if she isn't in the party! just after a certain plot happening(s) lol) AOE effects that are subtle and precise and adjustable and semi-automatic and instant. Or a powerful very small delay AOE attack I imagine, but I also imagine that'd be used in great moderation as it'd effect her social ties and passive buffs and such. No friendship or political buffs or perks if she is active in battle slaying mountains of enemies, it'd be too awe-inspiring for your team to do anything lest they get in the way anyways. Is bested by a very strong singular enemy, a higher ranked boss. (because slow delay moderately high damage might as well be slow and moderate damage on such a boss so celestia wouldn't be best there, but celestia is also good at general knowledge for the team on approaching uncommon enemies that pinkie can't distinguish)

Luna, anti-single target opponents(multiple single target debuffs of increasing variation and effect over time each turn it uses up of luna's, can swap targets). Promotes psychological recovery of others (faster mp regeneration) and can do abilities like a joint mp pool to share her massive mp to others to further the party, also she would probably be a brawler or heavy hitter with low defense used to split up enemy defenses or help finish off an enemy. She can also do some enemy manipulation and is an anti-debuffer and anti-manipulation. Also has some very slow very powerful abilities. Drawback is easily gets distracted from the big picture of a battle unless its up close and personal, and isn't good against small groups of somewhat strong enemies as much as weak hoards or a singular strong enemy, and the singular strong enemy might be immune to some of her types of debuffs and ailments and attacks so its very guess and check, and she can easily distract and pressure enemies.

I like my diverse roles type of rpg characters better than the unrealistic pure tank or pure dps etc characters that happen in other rpgs. They can be too standard, and characters have unique skills and roles, so forcing them into standards is rather short-sighted when they can easily have huge drawbacks. Like, you get a knight character who passes through a region with flying enemies and mages and status ailments, how the heck did he survive solo til then? It wouldn't add up, and irl in an rpg setting you are unique and comparing to exactly like tanks or etc might be better large scale and generally in armies, in a fantasy setting where everyone is competent its largely baloney because people would need more skills to survive in more scenarios. Its the flaw that rpgs assume you will have a party and orient it around such standard play, when some characters are soloists, or partial soloists, and soloists can still contribute to a team. Also I made their strengths and weaknesses related to personality as well, which rpgs do not always do. Like final fantasy has been following the knight/thief/whitemage/blackmage formula a little too long. People are more diverse in a fantasy setting like mlp.

Other fantasy settings sure, but in an mlp-related one people are more complex, because they have their own desires. Being a knight might be easiest to survive for a human in LotR, but in equestria where your dreams come true, you are who you were, what you want to be, and your current strengths and weaknesses related to personality, and the strengths and weaknesses of your goals and interests and etc. It by default has to be more complex, and frankly standard rpgs are boring and not worth my time. I would prefer a more complex one, so instead of doing the same thing every single battle, you have to consider party management better based on the scenario, and how their personalities might clash in party and such and how that can be described in a way pertaining to stats and abilities. It also would enable it so you can have multiple parties be somewhat balanced throughout the story if they ever decide to split up.

Twilight: Sorceress or Queen

Sunset: Sorceress

  • Sunset would have different magical abilities and can also become Daydream Shimmer by absorbing the magic of her friends, but only in dire emergencies otherwise it would be an abuse of power.

Rarity: Sorceress, Dancer, Dandy, or Paladin

Applejack: Warrior

Rainbow Dash: Rogue

Pinkie Pie: Bard or Conjurer

Fluttershy: Cleric

Twilight would be a Wizard or a Loremaster. A Sorcerer possesses inherent magical power and talent, a Wizard earns it from study and training.
