The animation...

Does anyone find that it doesn't match with the regular show's style? It seems to be less iconically cartoony with both the designs and movement.

I'm not saying it's bad or anything but I'm not incredibly crazy about the jerkier movements as well as the bland looks of the characters.

They're animating something entirely different in the same style(Humans vs ponies) so of course it's gonna look different.

That said it's massively improved since the first EQG imo

I'd sort of agree with you on the first EQG, but not really with the sequels, I think all of those look pretty good. The character designs are much cuter than I originally thought they would be too, back when we were just hearing about the first movie. I certainly prefer the look of the main show, but EQG is still rather pleasant to look at.

Well, the running still looks a little bit strange I guess.

With the first Equestria Girls movie, since DHX had no experience animating human versions of the characters whom they've been animating for three years at the time, the results speak for themselves. Characters had such jerky movements that it was painful to look at them. Expressions were also a problem in that they couldn't handle the basic of emotions.

This isn't true however with the sequels. With every subsequent movie, the animation has gotten better along with the expressions yet there are some things that could do with some slight improvement. Overall, I think DHX has become accustomed to working with such character designs now so they don't have any excuses to suddenly make the quality worse.

Yeah, running humans is probably one of the most notoriously hard to get right things in animation lol.

It's true we had bad expectations about the draft designs we've seen before the first trailer, they weren't very appealing. Plus the later art of the girls didn't helped (they were from the dolls, but we didn't know back then). At least the facial expressions were well done from the get go, but the movements were awkward. Since Rainbow Rocks, the animation improved notably, still, the running is still awkward :dash: (I suppose that's hard to animate)

I am perfectly fine with the animation in the EQG movies.

Ever sense Rainbow Rocks there has been a lot of interesting things going in it.

Especially Legend of Everfree which has some of the best animation the entire franchise has had.

In terms of animation the biggest fault of the first movie is that it tried to have the same cartoony animation of the show, it just doesn't fit those characters. They got it right in Rainbow Rocks and the other movies, and I think it is pretty good.
