And that is an outdated map. The more modern version is here.

Honestly it does not strike me as all that big going by the "official" map. In my head i always envisioned it as close to the size of maybe the US.. or at least half of it or so.. but that map just strikes me as about the size of a single state.. a small to mid-size one at that. I still say it is around the size of the US or at least half of it though. The map is just not very good with its overall dimensions.

yeah I was thinking the same thing. XP

I thought it was maybe half the size of north America... (or somewhere around the us >~<) :P

It's tricky because what encompassed beyond Equestria's continental landmass or it's borders is also quite frankly mysterious. I wonder about if whether other additional continents, not show in the map exists and each of them has their own respectable kingdoms.

I'd suggest that it's about the size of a larger European country, such as Spain, but the seeming absence of many other pony sovereign states makes me wonder what this world's geopolitics look like. Does every species have a single state? Or are there more out there we haven't seen? Is ponydom uniquely divided? Are ponies numerous in this world? It's difficult to say, but my Spain hypothesis feels right.

I had always imagined it to be sorta U.S. sized, but of course the in-show evidence is so inconsistent that there's really no way to tell.  One day they take a train for half a day to reach Canterlot, the next day Pinkie sleds backwards from f*ckin' Yak Yakistan to Ponyville in, like, a few minutes.  (I realized we're not suppose to count Pinkie Breaks.)  But still, there are so many random, wild inconsistencies.  They take a train for a seemingly long time to reach Manehattan, which is half the distance across Equestria from Ponyville, but they apparently walked to A.K. Yearling's cottage in an afternoon, which I was given to understand is on the far northwestern border of Equestria.  Sometimes I think Equestria is the size of the U.S., but more often they make it seem the size of Skyrim, as in you could walk across it in a couple hours or so.  (I've never timed that.  I should do that.  See how long it takes to walk from Riften to Solitude on foot.)  Anyway, maybe Equestria is the size of Westeros, but how big is that exactly?

I'm pretty sure that it says in the map that it's not to scale, so we can't trust the map.

I think it's something like Germany sized. Big enough that it takes time to get places, but not big enough that it takes more than a day to get anywhere from the middle.

IIRC, in episode 300 of The Simpsons it was revealed that Springfield was in Kentucky.

To me, the map looks sort of like a map of Great Britain, so I'd go with about that size.  The farthest part of Equestria would be The Crystal Empire.  They've gone there by train several times but ICR how long the trips take.

The map of Equestria along with Griffinstone and the Dragon's Lair does bear a resemblance to North America in some ways with the upper portions, particularly the snow covered lands, representing Canada and Greenland with the southern portions representing the United States and to an extent, Mexico given there is a desert in the south. I did notice that the map doesn't have the location of the Changeling Kingdom. Perhaps the next update of the map will provide its general location?
