Have you noticed that in the movies, demons are always ugly? You would think, being master manipulators, they would have a more trustworthy look.

Most films being made will have majority members in writing, acting and production of christian faith. So of course they will make demons look like monsters, just to get the point across that they are the enemy of all existence, not to be liked for any reason what so ever.

I found amusement in that most paranormal shows portray demons as only having three fingers. Every time someone gets scratched or there are claw marks it's just three. XD

Depends on the shape of the claw - sometimes the thumb and pinkie never touch the face, leaving only the index, middle and ring fingers to actually claw the face

Alot of demons are based off either Christian perception or on the occasion, various mythology. And mythology around the world can have some very strange or alarming creatures.

Working off of this in conjunction with several with the comments about the demons oft being portrayed in the Christian variety;

Technically it would depend on the type of demon being portrayed.

Is it that of the ones in DnD where Devils are evil, but scheming and tricksters,

or Demons that only thirst after carnage and bloodshed?

or the demons 'proper' of Christian lore that seek their own will above all else and thus warp others around them with their pleasing appearance?

Because in art really the best way to actively portray something as being the antagonist you tend to make them ugly, unless you're running a comedy then you make something ugly to subvert established themes in serious media to make a joke. But on the whole for actual drama whatever is evil is usually ugly in some way. The Wicked Witch is green and has a wart, Shakespeare made Richard III a hunchback, The Emperor from Star Wars is an obscenely wrinkled old man and some strange parchment-white humanoid alien, Jabba's Jabba, and so on.

 

The same applies to demons. Almost world-over demonic creatures are ugly creatures by their  true nature. They might take on a beautiful form - like a young woman - to lure people. But they're generally really deformed things.

 

 

That said, Supernatural has had some pretty attractive demons - granted they had hijacked someone's body - in the show, in a sort of cable TV way.

Demons are fallen angels, so they probably would look like angels. But demons are commonly depicted otherwise, with horns, red skin, and dragon-like wings, mainly because that's how today's society imagines them to look like.
