Do you think the movies got better with each release?

When people talk about Equestria Girls, I hear pretty negative things.  I sort of agree, but they just get better.  I absolutely LOVED friendship games! It made me like the concept of it.  Who agrees with me??? :proud:

While I was a bit hesitant towards the first Equestria Girls movie, it was mostly based on the annoying drama that was going on in the fandom, and when the movie finally came out I enjoyed it just fine.

I was excited for Rainbow Rocks and I had a blast watching it in theaters, and considered not only my favorite EQG movie, but one of my favorite FIM episodes.

I also really enjoyed Friendship Games, but not as much as Rainbow Rocks.

I even enjoyed Legend of Everfree, even if it isn't my favorite of the franchise.

I have always been a fan of the franchise, and am glad to have seen it become more popular within this fandom.

I don't think the EG movies got better. EG was..... fine, RR was the best overall, FG was underwhelming in comparison to RR, LoE was a huge improvement over FG, but i'd say it;s roughly equal to RR

first 3 were terrible

last one was slightly below average

You think Rainbow Rocks is terrible but Legend of Everfree was better?

Every time I watch Legend of Everfree, the animation errors seem to get worse and worse

Rainbow Rocks holds up pretty well while Friendship Games drives me into a frothing rage over a wasted plotline with Midnight Sparkle

Midnight Sparkle could have used some build-up. I'd have made it so that it was apparent that something dark and malevolent was forming throughout the movie, maybe something to do with the magic in her magic-catcher latching onto the negative emotions she was feeling, or perhaps having Midnight Sparkle actually be a creature that was forming inside her magic catcher, which eventually bonds with her for the finale.

Not really. "Rainbow Rocks" was a huge improvement, but since then I think the films have been in decline. I still enjoyed "Friendship Games" a fair bit, but it's filled with underdeveloped ideas and wasted potential, especially with regards to Sunset Shimmer and to the final confrontation, and it has some obvious rough edges with the Crystal Prep characters. And then there's "Legend of Everfree," which I did not enjoy at all, what with its weak jokes, half-baked Midnight Sparkle storyline, and thin characterization. So no, I wouldn't really say these movies get better every time.

I've always thought that Equestria Girls's biggest enemy was time, as in, not enough of it. Each film, with the exception of Rainbow Rocks(which had great pacing and screen-time sharing between the characters), would have benefited tremendously from an extra 10-20 minutes to give a bit more explination for things and to give some characters more time for characterization. Sunny Flare in FG only had a few lines and no characterization, while poor Lemon Zest only had a single line, though she did have a bit of characterization to her.

Equestria Girls: Crappy story, cringy songs, ugly character designs (especially Sunset's supernatural form; yeesh), nice character animation, jokes are relatively funny. 5/10.

Rainbow Rocks: Better but still contrived story, mediocre to somewhat cringy songs, better animation, not really that funny. 6/10.

Friendship Games: Incredibly lazy writing, visuals actually nice to look at, songs still bad (except for unleash the magic), kind of cute. 5/10.

Legend of Everfree: Great concept but wasted execution, best animation yet, songs mostly good (surprisingly). 7/10.

I"m not sure a lot of those side characters needed to be explored in much more detail, although perhaps it would make their quirks a little less strange and one-note. Definitely a lot in Friendship Games which would have been helped by having a longer running time, although I'm not sure that Equestria Girls or Legend of Everfree could be significantly improved without significant changes.

As for Legend of Everfree, extra time devoted to Filthy Rich and actually giving Diamond Tiara speaking lines would have been nice.

I dunno, the movie was juggling a lot of ideas as is. Not sure putting more emphasis on the Filthy Rich plotline would have helped.

I think RR was the best one. The first movie was mediocre in every way, FG was not as good as RR but still much better than EQG, and LOE wasn't as good as FG but still enjoyable. So far, then, movie quality has been in decline since RR but it hasn't reached EQG 1 levels yet, thankfully.

Wow.............lots of negativity floating around in our metaphorical swimming pool.

The 1st movie was actually pretty decent. Yes I know that is going to peev many people off, but I found that the writing was funny, the story was good(for the most part), the characters(particularly Spike)were all likable, and it was just fun to see Twilight attempt to adopt the human's culture. Is it perfect? HECK NO. But for what it was, and what it could have been, I liked it.

The second one was a drastic improvement on the 1st, and since then each installment has been gradually better than the last, to the point, where, now they feel very comfortable with what they are doing with the series.

Equestria Girls - 7/10

Rainbow Rocks - 7.6/10

Freindship Games - 8/10

Legend of Everfree - 8.4/10

The animation and special effects have definitely been getting better with each subsequent release. DHX did struggle during the first movie since they never used the character models they were given before resulting in some jerky motions combined with not being able to do something really fancy. They haven't reached the ideal perfection but I think they're getting closer every time. The songs do get better as well, something that Daniel Ingram should be really proud of, the same can be said with William Anderson and the musical cues he's been creating.

Stories... That one is a bit harder for me to defend. I mean, I like the plots for each movie though I will admit that there are obvious inconsistences that drag them down. Also, we now know what can happen when you add in too many characters and expect to give them ideal development within the time limit.

I wouldn't say so, it's true that I had been liking every movie more than the last one until the last one, but the quality hasn't improved so much since Rainbow Rocks. Friendship Games is my favorite almost because I decided I wanted that movie to be my favorite in instead of RR, and Legends of Everfree was kind of a letdown compared to what the former two movies did.

I love Equestria Girls! Every single movie!

But I will have to say I don't think they got better with each release.

I thought Friendship Games was kind of weak after seeing the greatness of Rainbow Rocks.

As of now I'm not sure whether or not I think my Rainbow Rocks or Legend of Everfree is my fav movie, and which between Equestria Girls and Friendship Games I like better.

Both RR and LoE had incredible music but will RR kind of takes the lead on that because the higher number. Also the new characters ,Dazzlings, were much more interesting than Timber or Gloriosa. Also the "WOW!" moments in RR were better than LoE's but maybe it's just because Sunset Shimmer is a much more interesting character than EQG Twilight.

LoE, however, was better in aesthetics. The whole high school musical thing in RR (magic comes from music) was a bit ridiculous obviously, doesn't really matter in the end because it was incredible, but still LoE has better more streamlined plot line. I think the dynamic in LoE was alot better than RR, especially because some of the Dazzlings dynamic was kind of just filler (funny filler but filler none the less). Better pacing in LoE. The characters in LoE were actually friendly to each other while RR, ehhh, not so much. I will say both are equal in humor.

I think I'll stop myself becauase this is starting to become a review. XD
